1 Pesi 593 April 17, 2018 Ms. Tiernan Lennon and Mr. John Schmidt U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service West Virginia Field Office 90 Vance Drive Elkins, WV RE: Variances MVP-ATWS-SM-027, MVP-ATWS-SM-037, MVP-ATWS-SM-037- EXT2, MVP-ATWS-SM-070, MVP-ATWS-SM-071, and MVP-WE Detailed Habitat Assessment and Portal Searches On April 8, 2019, Environmental Solutions & Innovations, Inc. (ESI) conducted a detailed habitat assessment (DHA) and portal searches on Variances associated with the Mountain Valley Pipeline Project (Mountain Valley, Project Area; Figure 1; Table 1). In the DHA, habitat is assessed and potential roost trees (PRTs) are marked and categorized. The Project Area totals 2.29 hectares (5.67 ac) and is located approximately 3.5 kilometers (2.2 mi) east of Smithfield, in Wetzel County, WV. Surveys were conducted in an area which has not been surveyed previously. Table 1. Assessed variances associated with the Mountain Valley Pipeline Project in Wetzel County, WV. 3 The Project is within the range of the federally endangered Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis) and federally threatened northern long-eared bat (Myotis septentrionalis). The habitat assessment, conducted according to the 2018 US Fish and Wildlife Indiana Bat Summer Survey Guidelines, was completed to determine the presence of suitable habitat for the Indiana bat and northern long-eared bat, and to identify different habitat types throughout the Project Area. Within the Project Area, five PRTs were identified as moderate roosting potential. No potential roost trees were located in variances MVP-ATWS-SM-027 or MVP-ATWS-SM- 071 (Figure 2). Moderate roosting potential was only identified for northern long-eared bats (Table 2). Roosting potential for Indiana bats was identified as low for all delineated PRTs (Table 2). Table 2.
