4 Idaho s Conservation Partnership Idaho's core conservation partnership, a collaboration of five essential conservation groups, organized in 2000 to sign a formal agreement which encompassed their mutual conservation objectives. The core conservation partnership includes the Idaho Soil & Water Conservation Commission (SWC), Idaho Association of Soil Conservation Districts (IASCD), the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), IASCD Auxiliary, and the Idaho District Employees Association (IDEA). The Idaho RC&D Association (IRCDA) joined the partnership in 2004, lending fresh perspectives on community development. This unique alliance of cooperative conservationists is the key to successfully preserving Idaho s quality of life. There are many programs and services available through the partnership, designed to assist in the implementation of a wide range of conservation activities. Idaho Soil & Water Conservation Commission: As a non-regulatory agency, SWC is an effective liaison, bringing together natural resource leadership, support, and services from local, state, and federal partners for the benefit of landowners and water users across the state. SWC works closely with Idaho s 51 Conservation Districts - providing assistance, training and funding to further facilitate the wise use and enhancement of soil, water, and other natural resources. Learn more about SWC on the web at swc.idaho.gov Idaho Association of Soil Conservation Districts: IASCD is a voluntary organization of Idaho s 51 Soil and/or Water Conservation Districts. The Association gives a unified voice to the Conservation Districts, representing them as part of the Partnership, and helping to direct and coordinate the Districts in the implementation of programs that protect and conserve soil, water, and other renewable resources. As cooperators in the management of Idaho s natural resources, the Association and its Conservation Districts actively promote conservation at the local level, endeavoring to engage public interest and participation in beneficial resource management practices. See the IASCD website for more details at Soil and/or Water Conservation Districts: Idaho s 51 Conservation Districts are political subdivisions of State government that develop and administer non-regulatory conservation programs. Districts work in cooperation with landowners and other local, State, and Federal agencies to promote the sustainable use of natural resources through responsible stewardship. Assistance is provided to landowners by coordinating technical, financial, and education resources. Many Conservation Districts have a site on the web you can find links to the Conservation District in your area by visiting swc.idaho.gov/links USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service: NRCS is the primary Federal agency providing on-the-ground technical assistance. NRCS also administers many conservation programs that assist private landowners in the protection of their natural resources. The NRCS emphasizes voluntary, science-based conservation technical assistance, incentive-based programs, and cooperative problem-solving at the iv

5 community level, while working to improve and conserve our natural resources. They continually strive to provide for productive agriculture and effective conservation. For indepth program and other information, go to IASCD Auxiliary: The IASCD Auxiliary, the first auxiliary formed of any State Association of Conservation Districts in the United States, continues to be a progressive body of support for the grassroots conservation movement in Idaho. The Auxiliary promotes soil conservation by lending their support to Conservation Districts and facilitating educational presentations and programs. The Auxiliary sponsors the Conservation Districts annual Poster Contest, as well as the IASCD Speech Contest, in an effort to promote environmental stewardship among school children. Auxiliary members also organize fundraisers, using proceeds to award college scholarships to students interested in fields of study related to soil conservation. Idaho District Employees Association: IDEA was founded with a vision of enhanced communication between employees and Conservation Districts, continuing professional development, increased effectiveness, and mutual partnership. IDEA, governed by a board of Division Directors, works to support and encourage employees through continued educational workshops and other opportunities. In keeping with their mission to increase the effectiveness of the District employees within their Conservation District, the Employees Association also awards semi-annual Professional Growth Scholarships. Employees can visit idea.ncdea.org for more information. Idaho Resource Conservation and Development Association: IRCDA coordinates and unifies local RC&D Councils as they provide proactive leadership and service to the individuals and groups working in their area. RC&D Councils implement programs designed to improve the quality of life through resource conservation and development for the residents of their RC&D area. They encourage and educate volunteers, locally elected, and civic leaders in designated RC&D areas to plan and carry out projects related to land conservation, community development, and land and water management. The RC&D Association s activities are centered on ideas of sustainable communities, prudent land use, and the sound management and conservation of natural resources. Please visit the IRCDA website at idahorcd.org/ircda/state to link to information on the statewide association, as well to access local RD&D Councils websites. v
