2 Plateliai lake is part of NATURA 2000 territory called,,žemaitija national park
3 Natural values of Plateliai lake (including its islands and peninsulas) Woodland key habitats Habitats of Community interest
4 Plateliai lake belongs to 3140 Hard oligo-mesotrophic waters with benthic vegetation of Chara spp. habitat type.
5 There are known 16 fish species in Plateliai lake. One of them Esox lucius in the picture.
6 Coregonus albula is the object of fishery trade. Coregonus lavaretus holsatus is the fish of Lithuanian Red Data book which lives in Plateliai lake.
7 Flourishing ferns (Matteuccia struthiopteris) in Pilies island.
8 I. Implemented activities Environmental education concerned with Plateliai lake. Waterfowl observation lesson beside Plateliai lake.
9 The artistic performance,,surround the Plateliai lake! of Plateliai gymnasium pupils. The children drawing represents treasures of Plateliai lake.

11 Nature educational lessons in the school......excursions
12 Educative event for local people and guests from diving clubs was arranged about invasive alien crayfish species Orconectes limosus and native one Astacus astacus.
13 Two species of crayfish live in Plateliai lake: Orconectes limosus dominates over Astacus astacus. During above mentioned event about 60 Orconectes limosus were caught by divers with hands.
14 I. Implemented activities Public participation in Plateliai lake clean-up campaigns. Local people, pupils, institutions, stakeholders were involved.

17 Plateliai lake clean-up campaigns take action every year. Red coloured lines on the map show main cleaning zones.

19 I. Implemented activities Reconstruction project of Plateliai lake dam was prepared in year Various meetings, seminars, discussions associated with this project have been held with members from scientific, state institutions since Coordinator was ŽNPD.
20 II. Present activities,,lakes for Future project implementation.,,lifescape project implementation. (Implementing european landscape convention in the South Baltic region). Implementation works of reconstruction project of Plateliai lake dam started in Autumn of 2012 and will last till 2013 summer. Coordinators are State Service for Protected Areas under the Ministry of Environment and Žemaitija National Park Directorate (ŽNPD).

Actions for near future In 2012 nature management plan for Plateliai lake was prepared, currently it is in approval process by Ministry of Environment. - The nature management plan is a document of strategic planning. - Organizer of this plan was Nature Heritage Fund- a non-profit, nongovernmental environmental organisation. - Preparation of the plan was financed by EU Structural Funds. - Nature management plan was in agreement process with ŽNPD, Telšiai state forest enterprise, Environmental Protection department of Šiauliai region, Plungės municipality.
25 III. Actions for near future After the approval of nature management plan for Plateliai lake the measures which are foreseen there should be implemented.
26 The aim of the plan is to maintain favourable conservation status of habitats and species of Community interest, which are identified. Dam place

Support the lake ecosystem and 3140 Hard oligo-mesotrophic waters with benthic vegetation of Chara spp. habitat in good condition, reducing biomass accumulation in shallow lake areas, open the areas for lakes costal winds. Improve water bird living conditions. Create conditions for EU important bog habitats 7140 Transition mires and quaking bogs, 7210 *Calcareous fens with Cladium mariscus adequate protection, improve its structure. Preserve the Pilies island s wooded grassland with rare plants Centaurea phrygia and Corydalis cava population. Form favourable conditions for Chlidonias niger, Sterna hirundo, Mergus merganser to breed and rest. Improve freshwater habitat 3140 condition by removing Dreissena polymorpha. Reduce the spread of invasive alien crayfish Orconectes limosus in Plateliai lake. Improve cognitive tourism, environmental education, the conservation and management conditions and infrastructure.
