In 1965, a new subsidiary company named Proteca, dedicated to the production of table clocks, was set up in Courroux.

In 1975, the Matthew Norman Clockmakers AG company was set up after the acquisition of the Swiss specialist.

In 1977, the Basel-based Escor group, which took a passionate interest in mechanical clocks, bought up the company and renamed it Matthew Norman SA.

3 History of a great Clock Manufacture In 1871, Henri Sandoz, born in 1851 in Le Locle, founded the Henry Sandoz & Cie watch factory in his native city of Le Locle in Swiss Jura, before relocating to nearby Tavannes, where he set up a new company producing simple and complicated watches, especially chronographs. He then also began making movements for table clocks and alarm clocks. In 1965, a new subsidiary company named Proteca, dedicated to the production of table clocks, was set up in Courroux. Meanwhile, in 1974, the English Goldman group was looking to revive production of Officer s clocks and contacted Proteca with this in mind. In 1975, the Matthew Norman Clockmakers AG company was set up after the acquisition of the Swiss specialist. It began creating collections featuring a timeless classic design inspired by carriage clocks. In 1977, the Basel-based Escor group, which took a passionate interest in mechanical clocks, bought up the company and renamed it Matthew Norman SA. In 1984, Matthew Norman launched its first in line mechanical movement called Baguette movement brought a last change of ownership, when Swiza SA, the Swiss leader in highquality clocks, decided to enrich its product portfolio in acquiring Matthew Norman SA. In 2006, a first strategic change took place. Matthew Norman launched a new line of products with resolutely modern designs, combining the Art of Living with astounding timepiece objects of art brought a major change of strategy when launching new lines of products defined in 3 categories : The first one highly technical features a 40-days mechanical movement, an innovative open-disc power-reserve display and a vertically-tilted regulating organ. 1

The third category combines the beauty of a mechanical movement with the majesty of a sophisticated housing. The models will also feature the exclusive use of noble materials such as brass, specific woods, fine leathers and cut glasses endowing the clocks with inimitable stature and radiance. After the 2000 operations required to assemble the 300 parts composing each clock, the latter is granted a numbered quality certificate. The company-register records the individual number of the movement, the name of the watchmaker, the production date and all other useful informations. All mechanical clocks made in the workshops are hand-crafted, part by part, by experienced watchmakers. The range now includes 8-day movements set with 18 jewels, 40-day movements set with 37 jewels, baguette movements set with 19 jewels, as well as the so-called Mouvement de Paris with its round face and appealing shapes. Enriched by a well-established practice of the art of horology, the company now successfully combines historical and modern elements. Thanks to its own true Manufacture and to the skills of its watchmakers, Matthew Norman is able to offer outstanding products based on a century old tradition. 2

32 USEFUL INFORMATIONS Each clock is assembled in our Manufacture in Delémont, Swiss Jura by our Master watchmakers, and is equipped with an in-house mechanical movement, made out of over 300 components. Our mechanical movements meet the highest Swiss quality standard. Our clocks are developped to ensure optimal accuracy and reliability. It is well accepted for a mechanical clock to have a few seconds variation per day and our clocks are set so as not to delay. However if you should note a wider variation, please contact an authorized dealer that will advise you, or a Matthew Norman technical support center which will proceed with the necessary adjustment. MAINTENANCE Our products have a long life span and will give you great satisfaction as long as they receive the appropriate care. To be kept in good working condition, it is recommended to periodically service your clock. We therefore advise to have the movement overhauled every 5 years. ENGRAVING Time has no hold on a Matthew Norman timekeeper. It is one of the rare objects that inspires a life-long attachment and is handed down as an heirloom from generation to generation. It is ideally suited to an engraved inscription commemorating an anniversary or a Jubilee, or to a screen-printed company logo. 30
