Other stones include coral, agate, lapis lazuli, obsidian and various coloured marbles. The Oak undercarriage was carved in 1824/5 with Lucy cross crosslets, massive supports and gilt decoration to match that of the Borghese table in the Great Hall. 2 Piano Mid 19 th century walnut cased piano with mahogany legs on brass castors by Hagspiel and Co. of Dresden. Also acquired Chairs and Chaise Longue 17 A set of 17th century East Indian (probably `Batavia or Goa) chairs, eight single and one elbow chair with chaise longue en suite Made from ebony inlaid with ivory with cane back panels and seats, the upholstery having been designed by Willement and worked by Mary Firescreens Pair of bone and bog oak fire screens on poles Depict Wynnstay and Bodelwyddan, made by William Roberts, the porter at Ruthin Castle, Denbyshire and dated Bog oak is retrieved from peat bogs where it has been preserved. Pole screens have been in use since the 1700 s when ladies and gentlemen wore heavy makeup made of cosmetic wax, lead and arsenic. If they sat too close to the fire the makeup would melt, sometimes with fatal results as the mixture could be absorbed into the blood stream. Later, when makeup became unfashionable, the pole screens were used to prevent the complexion becoming flushed with the heat of the fire.
