1 The Janapada Sampada Division Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (An Autonomous Organization under the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) Central Vista Mess, Janpath, New Delhi The Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India is visualized as a Centre encompassing the study of all arts, especially in their dimension of interrelationship and mutual interdependence. The IGNCA seeks to place the arts within the context of the natural and human environment. The fundamental approach of the centre in all its work is multi-disciplinary and holistic. The IGNCA requires either Project Associates/Project Assistants (based on qualification & experience of applicants) to work in the following project areas under the Janapada Sampada Division. The Janapada Sampada Division deals with research and documentation on the contextual aspects of culture including lifestyle, traditions, folklore and art practices of communities, from eco-cultural and socio-economic points of view. Concentrating on the oral traditions, if has a wide canvas covering regional studies from a multidisciplinary perspective emphasizing on the interrelationship between different cultural groups and communities. Project Areas: I. Living Traditions of Ramkatha, Mahabharata and Lok Parampara Project One Project Assistant/Associate. Work Profile: The Project intends to research and document the living traditions of the epics in India. 1. To coordinate the Ramkatha, Mahabharata and Lok Parampara projects. 2. Will coordinate the ongoing projects; assist in documentation and research under the guidance of Project Director/Project Coordinator. II. Worldview of Viswakarmas and Kerala Kshetram - One Project Assistant/Associate The Viwakarmas comprise five groups of artisan communities in India ironsmiths, carpenters, coppersmiths, sculptors and goldsmiths who trace their lineage of Lord Viswakarma, the divine architect of the Hindu pantheon. While the role of artisans in shaping the art and craft heritage of India is enormous, holistic studies linking the community, cosmology, social structure, and arts and crafts production in both traditional and modern contexts are still rare. The IGNCA project therefore aims to conduct comprehensive study of the Viswakarma worldview through multi-disciplinary and holistic methodologies. The project has the following modules for enquiry: (a) Study of origin myths and Viswakarma cosmology (b) Oral traditions (c) Conception of work, tools and workshops (d) Viswakarmas and Metallurgy traditions (e) Physical Habitat and Environment (f) Life Cycle Events (g) Rituals and festivals (h) Arts and Crafts (i) Iconography (j) Lexicon of terms used in the occupational, ritualistic and every-day life

2 specific to the Viswakarmas. The Project presently focuses on the Viswakarmas in South India. The Project Kerala Kshetram focuses on the immensely rich and complex cultural field of Kerala where the co-existence of myriad traditions oral and written, rural and urban, theoretical and practical, visual and performing arts and the inter-relationship therein provide a paradigm for holistic and multi-disciplinary regional cultural studies. Work Profile: Will Co-ordinate the projects under the guidance of Project Director/Project Co-ordinator. Educational Qualifications: Project Associate: Ph. D. with Post Graduate Degree in Social Sciences and Humanities preferably in cultural Anthropology/Sociology/Folklore/Cultural Studies/Performances Studies/Environment and Ecology/Cultural History/Environmental History/Food History/Literary Studies from a recognized University, Research experience and specialization in the project areas are desirable. Project Assistant: Master Degree in Social Sciences and Humanities, preferably in Cultural Anthropology/Sociology/Folklore/Cultural Studies/Performance Studies from a recognized University. M.Phil and knowledge of the project area are desirable. Age Limit: i. Project Associate: 40 yrs as on ii. Project Assistant : 35 yrs as on Remuneration: Travel: Rs. 40,000/- per month for Project Associate Rs. 30,000/- per month for Project Assistant He/ She will be required to travel within India in connection with his/ her work. Documenting the Textile Traditions of Northeastern States of India: A Composite Design Study of Fibres, Fabrics, Looms and Tools, Users and Cultural Indicators.This project is a design study of textile traditions in the North East India, documenting the tradition in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur and Sikkim. The project covers to document the weaving process, designs, and artifacts of textiles highlighting the foundational position of weaving in North Eastern region. 2. The Ethnographic collections under the Janapada Sampada Division. The Janapada Sampada Division deals with research and documentation on the contextual aspects of culture including lifestyle, traditions, folklore and art practices of communities, from ecocultural and socio economic points of view. Educational Qualifications: PhD in Textiles/ Museology or Post Graduate Diploma in Textile Design with relevant expe rience in field research and documentation of textile traditions from recognized University/ Institution. Work Profile: Project Manager shall look into: i. Overall Collection Management- Consisting of maintaining the records and documents, safe- guarding the materials, their proper upkeep and its long term conservation. ii. iii. iv. Make arrangement for display of the exhibits in a proper space and its regular maintenance. Shall be responsible for the future out-reach programmes of the collection Project Manager will be responsible for dissemination of information to outside scholars, students and others as and when required.
