1 When Not To Photograph Prabir Purkayastha 5 th December When not to photograph will explore & explain both the physical & psychological barriers that need to be addressed in your pursuit of this art. This workshop, though open to all practitioners, is mainly skewed towards the beginner and new professionals. Morning session: Presentation by Prabir and thereafter inter action with all participants. Each participant will have to participate in the ensuing debate/discussion. Afternoon session: Each participant will bring along 5/7 of their most emotionally or physically disturbing/difficult images for one-on-one/and or group discussion.
2 Curating and Thinking about Photography in Exhibitions and Books Workshop by Nathalie Herschdorfer 6 th and 7 th December Fee: Rs 2000 Under the direction of Nathalie Herschdorfer, curator and photo-historian, the workshop will explore the different ways of image-showing and curation in exhibitions and books.
3 Portfolio Review Judges: Nathalie, Prabir Purkayastha, Bandeep Singh, Aditya Arya and Parthiv Shah 8 th December Each judge will review 8 portfolios, devoting 25 minutes to each one. The morning session will be from 10 am to 2 pm. Each judge will review 8 portfolios, devoting 25 minutes to each one. The afternoon session will be from 2 pm to 6 pm. After signing up, participants will be assigned a time slot.
4 Photo As Archive An IHC Photosphere Workshop with Aditya Arya 9 th December, 2016 A day long workshop with photographer and Photo-historian Aditya Arya on what goes into the creating of a photo-archive, drawing from his experiences in unearth, preserving and disseminating historical images in India. He will talk about: How to conceptualise a strategic plan and curate different editions of archives for different points of consumption and varied audiences. He will also examine new hybrid practices to hone in on the nexus between analogue and digital practices, with particular consideration of global, local and glocal perspectives.
5 Exhibiting Lens Based Work and Louise Lawler: The Critical Documentary Mode Peter Nagy 10 th December 1. Exhibiting Lens-based Art Works: the pit-falls and pleasures 2. Louise Lawler (born 1947) is an American artist whose practice predominantly employs photographic means to critically discursive ends. Since the 1970s, her primary subject is, as she has described it, pictures of arrangements of pictures. Peter Nagy will present an overview of her work and the issues it addresses.
6 CREATING A BODY OF WORK: How to Approach a Photographic Project Bandeep Singh 11 th December The workshop will aim to help people identify personal photography projects, suggest how to develop them over time and discuss ways to benefit from them.
7 From the Click to the Digital: A History of Photography Dr Alka Pande 12 th December In the daylong workshop of 4 sessions, Dr. Alka Pande traces the art historical journey of photography from its inception in till date. It s an inclusive workshop which sums up photography as a medium from the click to the digital.
8 INTERANIMATION OF WORD AND IMAGE Literature and Photography Shormishtha Panja 13 th December How does one capture an object, a scene or a person in words and in the photographic image? Do these two genres, one literary, the other visual, have anything in common? What is the role of the author and that of the photographer? What role do images and imagery play in poetry and prose? Conversely, how does one read or analyse a photograph and what is the vocabulary one chooses to write about it? This workshop will be divided up into four sessions: A. The first session will deal with viewing the object, reading it and interpreting it, both verbally and visually. B. The second session will deal with portraits. C. The third session will deal with landscape, both urban and rural. D. The fourth session will consist of the participants working in pairs, shooting one photograph,
9 Street Photography Workshop by Parthiv Shah 14 th December While familiarizing the participants with the aesthetics, the workshop will try to contextualize the various socio-cultural aspects of the practice of street photography. The day long workshop will try address some such issues as we roam the streets of Delhi capturing its prose and poetry.
10 The Staging and Basic Elements of Fashion Photography Tarun Khiwal 15 th December Join fashion photographer Tarun Khiwal in an interactive session where he will be sharing his ideas of fashion, influenced by memories and personal experiences of childhood and travelling as the basic elements of his photography and the professional workflow behind big commercial campaigns. Get to know his aesthetic approach, carrying pride in one's own heritage and culture to all things photography, combined with a sensibility of modern techniques and artistic sophistication to create distinct visual imagery.
11 Photosphere Film Festival Curated by Nitin Donde 16 th and 17 th and 18 th December Free entry A suite of films on sustainable development curated by Nitin Donde will be shown and discussed, creating an open, interactive forum for dialogue on lens-based work around sustainability.
