My research focuses on tractable and robust inference algorithms for materials that exhibit complex appearances. This encompasses ideas in multiple disciplines: image manifolds, compressive sensing, multi-view geometry, computational imaging and reflectance properties of materials. Focus is on compressive acquisition of videos for dynamic textures and activities, stratified manifolds for stylecontent separation, and imaging systems with mirrors and lensless cameras., MD Fall Fall 2009 Center for Automation Research: Graduate Research Assistant My research during my doctoral studies was in multi-camera and multi-sensor systems. I focused on particle filtering, compressive sensing and multi-modal fusion for tracking and visualization. Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs (MERL), Cambridge, MA Summer 2009 Imaging group: Research Intern Reflectance properties of specular/mirror-like objects are poorly understood in the context of computer vision problems, such as shape estimation. We developed novel algorithms and image invariants for surface estimation and pose estimation of specular objects. We developed multi-camera head pose tracking algorithms for enabling a wide range of applications. In addition to delivering 25 % of the lectures, I was involved in preparing lecture notes, formulating and grading problems for assignments and exams. Gemstone Team Vision Graduate Mentor, Spring 2006 Spring 2008 The Gemstone program is a multi-disciplinary four year research program for undergraduates. I assisted Prof. Chellappa with mentoring a team of 12 students on developing navigational aids for the blind, with the goal of making the UMD campus friendly to the visually impaired.
