2 IERE TIS-Asia Meeting 2014 What is TIS TIS (Technological Issues and Solutions) started as one of the IERE activities in The objective is to contribute to members technological issue solutions in the field of electricity through various activities. What is TIS-Asia? TIS-Asia is one of the IERE regional activities of TIS, and it s objectives include; 1) to search for technological issues in the region, 2) to seek the solutions to the technological issues through information exchange at expert meetings, seminar, or workshops and 3) to transfer technologies through lecture/training course. What is the Objective of IERE TIS-Asia Meeting 2014? The objective of IERE TIS-Asia Meeting 2014 is to provide the participants with opportunities to exchange information and views about challenging technological issues and their experiences or efforts to solve those issues seeking for future collaboration among members. Main Theme Technological Issues and Solutions for Asian Power Growth Growing electricity demands in the region are creating many and various technological issues. Those issues could be effectively solved through international cooperative activities. During the following three sessions, it is expected that the speakers will make presentation about technological issues and how they are currently coping with those issues. The past experiences of solving particular technological issues will be also very informative. Participants from non-asian members are also encouraged. Session1: Stable Power Supply for Growing Demands - Power development plan - Incentive for development of power sources - Environment-conscious power plant Session2: Optimized Plant Operation and Maintenance - Maintenance of thermal power - High Efficiency Power Generation - Maintenance management for aged power facilities - Diagnosis / Life Extension Technologies Session3: Grid Connection - Increasing participation connecting of renewable energy - Wide-area grid connection Panel Discussion R&D in Asia for Solutions to Technological Issues : Most member organizations in Asia have been more or less undertaking R&D activities to solve technological issues. Panellists are invited to make presentation on the R&D status/future plans/strategies of their organizations and are expected to discuss possible future collaboration. (Session structure may be rearranged depending on available speakers.) Who Should Attend? The expected participants of this meeting include managing directors of R&D and the experts who are interested in the theme of each session, IERE members and non-members alike engaged in the session themes. Any people/organizations not only from Asia but from all over the world who share technological issues and have various experiences in the field of electricity are also expected to join the meeting and exchange views, information, and to participate in the vigorous discussions. 2

6 16 January: DAY3 Technical Tour (Optional) SIIT Thammasat Univ. organizes Technical Tour to GHECO-One coal-fired power plant on Thu. 16 January Schedule(The schedule is subject to change) 09:00 ~ 12:00 Tour 12:00 ~ 13:00 Lunch 14:00 Bus returns to Learning Resort GHECO-One is Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Thailand located in Map Ta Phut, Rayong. GHECO-One Company Limited was formed with the objective to produce and supply electricity to EGAT under the IPP program. GHECO-One Power Plant will be operated at international standards, using high quality coals and the state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly technology including the use of Supercritical Pulverized Coal Boiler Technology, a high efficiency boiler system that can reduce consumption of fuel, thus reducing emissions. For participants, some share-ride vans will be arranged and will depart for Suvarnabhumi International Airport at several set time. There is No charge for Airport drop-off service but it would be unable to guarantee that the above set time suit your convenience.
