12 SPANISH RAIL SECTORWAY R&D STENGTH (IV) Industry at the forefront, world benchmark > 80 countries Spanish Railway Industry involved in railway projects in more than 80 countries over the five continents. Participation of Spanish railway companies in international projects covers all possible areas. From the most demanding from a technological point of view - such as High-Speed projects - to medium and long-distance transport, as well as commuter, underground and tramway systems and freight transport. Some examples: Mecca - Medina High-Speed line Design, construction, operating and maintenance of the Mecca Medina High-Speed line and trains in Saudi Arabia for 12 years, for a sum of almost of 7,000 Mill. Middle East underground systems Spanish engineering and construction companies are involved in the underground systems of the main cities in the Middle East (Abu Dhabi, Doha and Riyadh). Brazil Spanish companies have produced the first catenary-free tramways implemented in several Brazilian cities.
