2 Grinding Symposium 2019 THE SYMPOSIUM IN NUMBERS A record event: When the world of grinding and precision machining meets in Thun, not only will 2000 people meet from all over the world. Some other new records will also be set 4 languages will be spoken at the Grinding Symposium. Lectures on these issues will invite discussion at the Grinding Symposium Dr. David Bosshart from Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute for Social and Economic Studies will speak on the topic Future: Human and machine Dr. Sebastian Risi from the IT University of Copenhagen will deal with artificial intelligence in production SPECIALIST COLLOQUIA Do humans still operate machines or have machines long controlled us, without us noticing? And how is digitalization changing the interface between human and machine? Dr. David Bosshart from Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute for Economic and Social Studies will kick off the range of specialist colloquia with a lecture on this topic and draw a big picture of the modern working world. Lectures are traditionally an integral part of the Grinding Symposium. Many renowned social, economic, digitalization and machine manufacturing experts have already spoken here. Claus Ahrens from Bosch Connected Devices and Solutions, for instance, will talk about the use of MEM sensors. MEM are Micro Electrical Mechanical Sensors, which process both mechanical and electronic impulses. The best-known application is the detection of a vertical or horizontal condition, as when a smartphone is rotated. Which advantages these sensors have in production processes will be explained by Ahrens at the Symposium in Thun. The factory of the future will be far more flexible, predicts Dr. Sebastian Risi, who deals with artificial intelligence (AI) at the IT University of Copenhagen. And humans will be integrated in entirely new combinations: Human machine, human robot, machine robot. At the Symposium Risi will talk about AI in the manufacturing industry. Eckhard Hohwieler from Fraunhofer IPK Berlin will devote himself to a related area of artificial intelligence: Machine learning in production. Prof. Konrad Wegener from ETH Zürich will deal specifically with grinding machine technology and ask which visions and developments are conceivable for these applications. These two questions will be answered by two of the core elements of the Grinding Symposium: the technology presentations and FutureLAB. TECHNOLOGY PRESENTATIONS At the stations in the new Hall 6 specialists from the Group will present new software solutions and new machines. These will include at least one world premiere. What are the specifics? Which concrete machining steps will benefit? These questions will be answered knowledgeably and clearly using the example of individual machines, as well as in lectures and presentations. The production specialists from the UNITED GRINDING Group are not only familiar with the machines, they also know the customers specific requirements. FutureLAB is dedicated to the theme of digitalization in production FUTURE LAB Production monitoring by an online monitoring service, system-specific support by a remote service: The UNITED GRINDING Group already offers these services under the Digital Solutions label. Which further digital solutions are conceivable in the production environment will be examined in FutureLAB which, on an area of over 300 square meters, will be part of the Grinding Symposium for the first time. The Exhibition Center has been extended and with the newly built Hall 6 now offers a great place for technology presentations, with room for an audience of 70 in each presentation. The Grinding Symposium will provide entertaining evening events for its guests on two days.
