2 2013 Present Experience Co-Founder and Chief Hardware Architect, Vector Watch, Vector Watch is a smartwatch company based in London, United Kingdom with hubs in Romania, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, and the United States. The company produces a series of elegant smartwatches which offer an unprecedented 30-day battery lifetime. My responsibilities in the company are: Plan and manage all hardware development activities for current projects. Design specifications into product schematic and PCB, approve and release design files to manufacturing. Monitor manufacturing facilities during production and devise QC, QA, and production yield improvement procedures. Conduct and manage all hardware research and development activities for new products. Collaborate and coordinate with other departments in the company and for all product development activities. Establish and manage relationship with electronic component manufacturers and providers. Investigate new development areas and technologies, find new prospective project partners. Conduct technical presentations at events, conferences, and seminaries Present Lecturer, University Politehnica, My interests lie in the field of pervasive computing, embedded systems, low-power computing architectures, robotics, digital circuit design and fault-tolerant systems. I am particularly interested applying energy harvesting to wireless sensor network architectures. I am currently leading the Embedded Systems Laboratory of the Computer Science Department and lecturing five graduate and undergraduate courses on the topics of Wireless Sensor Networks, Digital Computer Design, Fault-Tolerant Computing and Embedded Systems. Since joining the Computer Science Department of the University Politehnica Bucharest in October 2007, I have been involved as a researcher and project manager in a series of national and international research projects for the development of the Internet of Things Founder, PollutionTrack, The start-up produced a portable air quality sensor. The small wearable measures direct air pollution exposure, giving the user real time alerts in case of danger. Collected data is sent to a mobile app where it can be viewed and where it s also aggregated with the geographical location of the wearer. Also, there is a comunity-based approach, in which anonymous data is sent to the cloud in order to construct accurate public pollution maps at city-level Assistant Professor, University Politehnica, Graduate Research Assistant, Hochschule fur Technik und Wirtschaft, Dresden. Worked as a researcher in the Embedded Systems Laboratory on the design of energyharvesting techniques. During my stay, I designed and deployed an ultra-low power wireless sensing network which uses energy harvesting in order to ensure unbounded battery lifetime for the sensor nodes. Results of my research in Dresden were the basis for my PhD. dissertation Research Assistant, National University of Singapore, Singapore. As part of my bachelor thesis, I worked on a peer-to-peer file transfer protocol based on the fair-sharing principle. The protocol is designed for the sharing of large files and attempts to achieve the correct incentive structures while fully exploiting the bandwidths between peers dan.s.tudose@gmail.com 2/5

These networks are computer systems that integrate and test the limits of classical notions of distributed systems and networking. This course aims to address a wide range of topics related to the field, such as operating systems, network protocols, power management, real-time services and middleware that can run on an architecture of sensory wireless nodes. During this course, students will have the opportunity to learn about the fundamental concepts of designing a sensory node, design protocols for these sensory systems, and familiarize with the main operating systems that run on such architectures dan.s.tudose@gmail.com 3/5
4 2012 Present 2009 Present 2008 Present Digital Computer Design, The two-semester course aims to be an introduction to computer systems architecture, including instruction set architecture, the study of the main types of processors, design and implementation of a RISC processor, pipelined operation, structure and architecture of modern processors, main memory organization and input/output systems. Students learn how to describe computing systems at different levels of abstraction, depending on their purpose by acquiring a hardware description language such as Verilog or VHDL. The course starts with the basics of computer arithmetic, the representation of information in digital computers, and the design of some fundamental computing structures and slowly builds up to the design of a modern computing architecture. Computing structures are assessed in terms of complexity and performance. Computer Engineering and Fault-Tolerant Computing, This course aims to introduce the students to the notions of fault-tolerance and reliability in modern computing systems. As computing systems exponentially grow in complexity, so does their tendency to develop defects and faults. The course is split into two general modules as it shows the methods and procedures to achieve fault-tolerance for both hardware and software systems. Students learn the fundamentals of reliability theory and the concepts of availability and maintainability through mathematical modeling. Calculation of system reliability is based on structural modeling using Markov models, with examples for different types of systems. Also, concepts such as recoverability, isolation and data consistency are taught with examples spanning from databases to tightly-coupled systems networking protocols. Embedded Systems, The course aims to explain the fundamental ideas underlying embedded and real time systems. An embedded system is designed for a particular purpose, compared to an ordinary computer which has a multi-functional role. The course deals with the hardware and software architecture of embedded systems, constraints in terms of performance, cost and use. Optimization techniques are studied to design embedded systems and real-time handling of events. The course also presents the main concepts governing the design of embedded operating systems. Skills and Competences Good ability to work in multicultural environments, gained through my working experience in multiple scientific research projects and in the industry that have been dominated by internationally composed teams Good communication skills gained through the years of experience as lecturer and through a series of invited talks and interviews Dynamic, results-oriented problem solver that can easily understand and solve technical problems of varying complexity Good experience in project or team management, gained both through working experience in industry e.g. during R&D projects and in University during creation, development and implementation of Bachelor and Master curriculum Proven leadership and organizational abilities and can interact effectively with clients, business prospects and staff dan.s.tudose@gmail.com 4/5
