8 Particiation to the 17 th edition of ESARDA Course on Nuclear Safeguards and Non-Proliferation JRC Ispra, April 9-13 th participants, 20 nationalities Africa, America, Europa and Asia are represented
9 17 th edition of ESARDA Course on Nuclear Safeguards and Non-Proliferation JRC Ispra, April 9-13 th 2018 Visits of Research Laboratories AS3ML The Advanced Safeguards Measurement, Monitoring and Modeling Laboratory (AS3ML) is an R&D location, test bed, demo facility and training centre for innovative safeguards approaches where researchers, inspectors (and operators) can conceive and analyse different approaches (including competing technologies) for safeguarding nuclear facilities. The innovative aspect of AS3ML aims at providing alternative monitoring methods of processes of sensitive facilities such as Gas Centrifuge Enrichment and Nuclear Fuel Reprocessing plants. 3D-LABORATORY The laboratory performs R&D on laser based identification and verification systems for containment and surveillance. Applications cover the design information verification of nuclear facilities, identification of nuclear containers by unique surface maps, verification of containment and closure welds as well as 3D surveillance. Activities include the support and training to IAEA and DG-ENER on JRCdeveloped laser based systems. PERLA PERLA (PERformance LABoratory) is an open access facility for developement and testing of instrumentation for nuclear material charaterisation. PERLA is equipped with several gamma-ray spectrometers for nuclear material charaterisation on large variety of configurations such as with solid state, plastic and liquid scintillation detectors. The facility also uses neutron correlation techniques such as neutron multiplicity counting and neutron coincidence counting as applied by Euratom and IAEA in facilities under safeguards control. PERLA is used for the training of EURATOM inspectors and also from other safeguards organisations.. ESSOR Nuclear Reactor ESSOR operated from 1968 until 1983 carrying out research into nuclear energy. Today many activities are ongoing in ESSOR buildings mainly for the preparation of its decommissioning as it s the case for several facilities in JRC Ispra Site,
