The agenda was approved. Internal Sven Lovén business 1. Information (see also attached PPT file) Newly implemented regular meetings with resident and campus scientists Facts and Figures about the development over the past 5 years (number of res. scientists, guests, use of vessels, ROV etc). Newly implemented Technical Strategy Panel Naturrum Kosterhavet project about new Entrance and upgrade the aquaria Age structure at Sven Lovén and retirement of key personnel during the next 2 years 2. MUST (Mobile Underwater System unit) 1

2 The ROV facilities and origination were presented and discussed. A new leader will be hired after the leave of the former one in May Cabled Underwater Observatory Kristineberg The cabled UW- observatories at Kristineberg, Tisler and Koljö fjord were presented and discussed. They are externally funded and partly owned by other actors. Recommendation of the AB that these systems should be developed further, in collaboration with existing and potential new users and together with owners and interested parties, also aiming to integrate with existing EU- initiatives such as Jericho and EMSO. 4. Scientific Diving at Sven Lovén Centre The current situation was presented and possibilities for further development were discussed. Aiming to be certified as a training and education centre for scientific diving, not relying on the Swedish navy for this (charging 14kSEK/week) Minimum of three Divers necessary to comply with national laws and regulations Course on Scientific diving methods Course and training in accordance with European Scientific Divers Certificate Recommendation of the AB to go ahead with the development of a concept, business plan, necessary investment and a finance plan. Continue with the approval of diving rules. Evaluate the possibility to become a certified as a training and education center for scientific diving. Developments at Gothenburg University with implications for the Sven Lovén Centre The marine sciences at GU and future visions were presented. Scattered marine activities across the university have been the starting point for a commission assigned to K Johannesson: to suggest a united cross- faculty organization for maritime activity with responsibility for research, teaching and cooperation with the society. Link to the maritime cluster, link to all faculties, form a working group, deadline Sept 15. Major national activities The SMRI application submitted to VR in April 2013 was presented. The KAW infrastructure application for an AUV and ROV complementation was presented, deadline Sept 1, The result of KVA applications in 2013 for Funding to support internationalization and scientific renewal at the Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences was presented. 3 program will be further promoted to ensure more applications as there are non- used resources. The present status for the new research vessel process was presented. Offers from different ship builders are being received, the recruitment process for a second staff has started and there is a plan for training of the existing staff. Regional activities Information The five clusters and specifically the marine environment and maritime sector : 13.pdf and uster_rapport_web.pdf Interreg A, the Öresund- Kattegatt- Skagerack program (20 regions involved). Program is being drafted, consultation summer Four objectives: innovation, CO2- reducation measures, transports and the labor market. The five clusters will be included but balanced against particular interest of other regions. Also the North Sea and Baltic programs could be of interest for the Lovén Centre/GU. VGR (together with Formas) is being part of the new ERA- NET Marine Biotech VGR is being involved in the process of initiative.eu/en/home.htm (KIC - Knowledge and Innovation Community), should be of interest also for GU. International activities Information ASSEMBLE; Extension until October 2014; 1 or 2 more calls depending on budget Call 8, for TA projects taking place this summer 126 applications in total, 29 for Lovén (21 for Kristineberg and 8 for Tjärnö) of which 14 were approved for K and 5 for T. EMBRC; preparatory phase ends Jan 2013, implementation phase planned to start Feb The focus now is to get the member states onboard, so work is about MoU, business plan, head quarter call and setting the implementation governing board. EUROFLEETS 2; will set a link between EMBRC and EUROFLEETS 2, Klages contact. 4 Study course Maritime Technologies It was said to further explore the possibilities of co- organizing courses between universities. Also on the possibilities of MoUs on the regional level. Request of STRÖMSTAD ACADEMY Nordiskt institut för avancerade studier ( Nordic Institute for Advanced Study ) to sign a MoU. The AB recommends not to as does not fit the scope of the Lovén centre. What are the most critical points explaining the high down-time of the ROVs? Recruiting new ROV technician. Formal contracts, training and education Cabled Underwater Observatory as a test site Status, potential users, future investments needed. Where to place it? Application to join JERICO (FP7 programme) Scientific Diving at SLC Non-professional organization, lead should be at SLC including chief dive master. This is actually not really the case. We have to think about how to solve this situation. Should we go for a Training and Education Centre for Scientific Divers? Needs approval by Swedish Navy Does the retirement of SLC staff in the nearest future offers possibilities to re-allocate personnel to that unit? The Buoy project Unclear responsibilities, many different intentions, non-harmonized yet, how to solve all this Bench fees Which instruments are included, which not and why? How shall we handle this issue in future? How may we become cheaper, thus more competitive? Future investments What do scientists will need in future at a coastal marine research centre with two different environmental settings? M. Nyberg Personell / replacement / strategic recruitment? Some employees will retire in the course of the next years; how and from where to recruit new employees, which specialization do we need?
