1 NEWSLETTER N. 06 Dec 2014 OPEN PLATFORM FOR EVOLUTIONARY CERTIFICATION OF SAFETY-CRITICAL SYSTEMS The Project in a nutshell EDITORIAL OPENCOSS is a European large scale FP7 project ( Its objective is to produce the first Europe-wide, open safety certification platform. This is meant to reduce time & cost for (re)certification of safety-critical embedded systems, specifically in the Railway, Avionic and Automotive domains. Want to know more? Choose and download any public deliverable: The project has been running 3 years now, and it is approaching its completion in April Since Newsletter issue 5, more feedback was collected on the working prototype, the OPENCOSS Platform, by means of three industrial case studies. FEEDBACK The feedback was used to incrementally improve the prototype; this produced the third and final version of the OPENCOSS Platform, which was then applied in the case studies, thus completing Milestone 5. OPENCOSS NEWSLETTER N. 06 Dec 2014 Pag. 1/11
2 The improvements to the prototype were made possible by conceptual and engineering work, carried out simultaneously behind the scenes: Refinements of architecture Usage scenarios and their customization onto case studies Prototype integration with third party tools (development, safety, process management) Methodological guide to Common Certification Language (review of) Compositional certification advancements (concepts, rules and guides) Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) diagrams Enhancement in Certification Service infrastructure On the last item, it is worth citing that the prototype now provides support for gap analysis, which pinpoints the gap to be filled in order to achieve compliance with a given safety standard (see snapshot below): OPENCOSS NEWSLETTER N. 06 Dec 2014 Pag. 2/11
