Saab SAAB WASP INDUSTRY PHD STUDENTS CALL 1 Kristoffer Bergman LiU Advanced real-time planning and decision making for autonomous systems The project aims at developing state-of-the-art real-time planning and decision making algorithms for future autonomous systems. The research plan is to formulate these problems in a predictive control setup, for which there already exists high-performing algorithms with a convincing practical track record. The predictive control strategy relies on re-optimization on-line based on the actual observed state, a strategy that reduces effects from model uncertainties and handles unforeseen changes in the mission. Sensor Management For Distributed Autonomous Systems As the number of available sensors increases, the workload of aircraft operators increase rapidly. Simultaneously controlling individual sensors and handling measurements means little time is left for the operator to do what he or she is doing best: analyzing the situation in order to make wise decisions. Bertil Grelsson LiU Online learning for visual navigation of UAVs A UAV carries an onboard wide-angle camera for surveillance and reconnaissance purposes and needs GPS-free ego-localization and navigation using a high quality 3D-map with visual texture. The approach includes training a convolutional neural network and combining machine learning methods with geometric approaches, e.g. for navigating in partially changed or destroyed environments Digital Cognitive Companion for Marine Vessels The current trend is that naval ships are being equipped with increasing number of increasingly complex sensor systems, integrated onboard or on autonomous vehicles, forming a multiagent system (MAS). Per Boström LiU This project will investigate how autonomous functions, such as trajectory planning and resource management, can be used to help operators obtain an overall situational awareness in a network of flying manned or unmanned systems. Mårten Lager Lund The main goal of this project is to develop a solution where operators can effectively interact with multi-agent systems on a more abstract level where fusion algorithms replace some of the work that operators do today.
13 SAAB GLOBAL INNOVATION PROGRAM Building joint Innovation Arenas with customer nations supporting long term partnerships Enable to meet new capability needs in customer nations Enable the full customer base to contribute innovation in Saab products
RATING OF KNOWLEDGE INTERACTION Industry PhD Common Projects MSc Thesis Demonstrators Researchers on site Sponsorships Seminars Board partcipation etcetera Based on analysis in Saab Aeronautics Technology Organisation 2009
INTERACTION BETWEEN TWO DIFFERENT VALUE STREAMS Long term competence supply and innovation is key to high tech industry Industry to generate ROI, University to build and spread knowledge, degree of commonality? Intellectual Property Rights could be an issue Funding is important to gain interest from Universities- but not sufficient Universities are driven more by motivation than by contracts- not a normal supplier relation Industrial relevance is key for Universities to gain Industry Interest Knowledge Interaction strengthen prospects of long term success for both parties
