Engineering Concept to Production
What is NeedleSmart? A REVOLUTIONARY AND UNIQUE MEDICAL SHARPS DISPOSAL SYSTEM DESIGNED TO STERILISE AND DESTROY THE NEEDLE
The current approach Designated as hazardous clinical waste Expensive to dispose of Environmentally unfriendly Openly dangerous for healthcare workers Risk of serious injury Loss of workdays due to injury Compensation claims expensive and likely to continue rising as the rest of the world follows the US litigation culture
The statistics A global problem but 80% of all Needle Stick injuries are preventable! Local UK data over 100,000 reported NSI in the UK Potential NHS savings (Cost comparison to current sharps disposal) Data recording benefits >70% reduction in sharps to sharps bins calculated 5.53M saving Upto 28% reduction in Needle Stick injuries 84M 30 % reduction on disposal costs 6.75M
The Product Needles placed into the NeedleSmart device are simultaneously heated to circa C and clamped. Clamping compresses the needle into a ball-bearing, rendering the needle a non-sharp Rapid heating sterilises the ball bearing destroying harmful bacteria and viruses such as HIV, Ebola, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. The only product(s) globally that takes a contaminated needle, recycles and reforms the needle to a safe, sterile, sealed syringe The only product(s) globally that can take a sharp and reclassify as a non sharp!
