I. Course Description Related Drafting This course is broken up into 36 weeks. The main goal of this course is to introduce construction related trades the necessary skills needed to read and understand construction drawings and print reading. This course will introduce students to construction prints through study of the fundamental skills and concepts involved in reading, measuring, sketching, orthographic projection, pictorial views and interpreting drawings.
II. Course Objectives Related Drafting Upon completion of the requirement of this course, students will be able to: I. Construction Drawing Organization (9.4.12B.1,8, 9, 10, 11) Explain why drawings are important in the construction industry. Identify what is included in a set of construction drawings. Describe how drawings and prints are made. Handle prints properly. II. Reading Measuring Tools and Reading Scales (9.4.12.B.59, 72, 75) Read both customary (English) and metric rules and tapes. Convert between customary and metric units. III. Lines and Symbols (9.4.12.B.7, 11, 17, 18, 59) Identify features from different lines. Match drawing symbols with their meanings. Match drawing rendering and fills with their indicated material on the drawing. IV. Freehand Technical Sketching (9.4.12.B.7, 11, 17, 18, 59) Use proper sketching techniques Sketch lines, circles, arcs, and ellipses Sketch objects and construction drawings. Relay Simple construction plans. V. Pictorial Drawings (9.4.12.B.2, 21, 59, 62, 73, 75) Recognize pictorial drawings. Understand the basic concepts of perspective drawings. Sketch isometric and oblique drawings. Identify the difference between cavalier oblique and cabinet oblique. Draw objects and structures using one-and two point perspective. VI. Orthographic Drawings (9.4.12.B.2, 21, 59, 62, 73, 75) Visualize orthographic objects and structures. Create orthographic sketches Identify different types of orthographic drawings. VII. Plumbing Prints (9.4.12B.1,8, 9, 10, 11) Identify various piping systems Recognize plumbing fixture symbols on prints. Explain the three stages of plumbing installation. Read a piping diagram VIII. HVAC Prints (9.4.12B.1,8, 9, 10, 11) Identify the purpose of HVAC systems.
Explain different types of heating and cooling systems. Identify HVAC symbols on prints. IX. Electrical Prints (9.4.12B.1,8, 9, 10, 11) Identify electrical symbols. Explain various electrical terms. Recognize different types of electrical drawings. X. Welding Prints - (9.4.12B.1,8, 9, 10, 11) Identify different portions of a welding symbol. Explain weld details based on the welding symbol on a print.

VII. Pacing Chart Unit 1: Construction Drawing Organization Week 1, 2 Construction prints is the first lesson introducing students to the various prints used in construction. Unit 3: Reading Measuring Tools and Reading Scales Week 3-7 Unit 3 will provide students with the ability to read fractional and metric rule as well as using a scale. This will provide knowledge to read measurements from a print. Unit 4: Lines and Symbols Week 8, 9 Students will identify the types of lines used on prints by learning The Alphabet of lines. Unit 5: Freehand Technical Sketching Week 10-14 Lesson 1 of unit 5, gives students the ability to learn sketching technique, Proportion in sketching, steps in sketching an object and how to use sketching aids. Unit 5: Pictorial Drawings Week 15-19 Lesson 2 of unit 5, will provide students with the knowledge to recognize pictorial drawings as well as the understanding of basic concepts of perspective drawings. Creating sketched pictorial drawings will be the base of this lesson. Unit 5: Orthographic Drawings Week 20-26 Lesson 3 of unit 5, Introduces orthographic projection. Unit 13: Plumbing Prints Week 27-29 Unit 13 provides students with an introduction on various piping systems and how to recognize plumbing fixture symbols on prints. Unit 14: HVAC Prints Week 30-31 Unit 14 provides students with an introduction on heating and cooling systems and how to read HVAC plans. Unit 15: Electrical Prints Week 32-34 Students will learn electrical terminology and how to read electrical symbols on a print. Unit 16: Welding Prints Week 35, 36 Weld details based on the welding symbol on a print will be explained.

Demonstrate correct placement of basic dimensioning. 6. Identify the components of a residential plumbing plan. 7. Identify plumbing symbols and fixtures used on a residential plumbing plan. 8. Identify the components or a HVAC plan. 9. Describe and identify an electrical plan and all of its features. 10. Identify typical electrical symbols used on a residential electrical plan. 11. Identify different portions of a welding symbol 12. Explain weld details based on the welding symbol on a print.
