PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Hi everyone! We are certainly entering the dog days of summer here in Central Florida! Anyone painting Christmas in July? I ve been working on various projects and organizing my craft room. I ve discovered so many new things I had forgotten that I had! Hopefully everyone has finished their zentangles on our project from last month! Thanks to Cheri Bergquist for a fun, relaxing project. This month we will be learning about reverse glass painting from Dianne Case. I can t wait to see how this is done! Remember: bring in those memory/treasure boxes! Cathy CALLING ALL TEACHERS for 2019 Start planning now for next year! We will hold open voting again at the October meeting to get the 2019 workshop schedule set up. Having the camera set up has made teaching and taking workshops even easier. Now is the perfect time to share your special talents with the chapter! MINUTES OF DECORATIVE ARTISTS OF ORLANDO CHAPTER MEETING MINUTES JULY 7, 2018 *Meetng was called to order by President Cathy Ferrer at 9:00 AM. *A moton was made approve the minutes as they were printed in the newsleter. Motoned and passed. *Cathy reported that the Sandy McTier Seminar in September currently has 18 signed up for each day. Seminar will be held at the Bowling Alley on East Colonial between Rouse and Dean Roads. Lydia Steeves will be here in March of 2019 and if the venue works out for this seminar in Sept we will try for it again in March. *Workshop today will be Cheri Bergquist with her painted and tangled Santa- *Dianne Case talked about her August workshop which will be in pen and ink and reverse glass paintng. Paint will be supplied for a fee. She recommended no Sharpie or Pigma pens. She recommends only crow quill with India ink or a Rapidograph. She has some crow quill pens to lend but you will need your own ink. Supply list will be in the newsleter. *September s workshop will be Alise Duerr teaching a painter s apron. *October workshop will be Cathy Ferrer teaching a Christmas Block. *Cathy reported that membership is currently at 36 members. *Cathy reported the treasurer s report is available from Terrie at the back of the room if interested. The balance appears high as we have been taking in money for the Christmas Party and the McTier seminar and no monies have yet gone out. We also have $500 set aside for the Legion Hall donaton. *Spring Fling Planning is being headed up by Karen Schultz and Judy Dearof. A planning meetng will be coming soon. *Cathy reported that Roxie has the menu selected for the Christmas Party. There will be a Christmas Commitee meetng next month at lunch break. It was also decide to go ahead and book Greg Case as Santa once again. *NEW BUSINESS-Dianne brought in boxes of mats for members to take for free and Pate brought in some magazines to be taken free. *Pate Kayne reported the newsleter deadline to be July 19. *Afer the 50/50 drawing, Door prize drawing and Show and Tell, the meetng was adjourned at 9:30 AM. UPCOMING WORKSHOPS & SEMINARS Please sign up for the workshop before the meeting by visiting the Workshop page on the chapter website AUGUST WORKSHOP taught by Dianne Case Giraffe Reverse Glass Painting Supply List Supply Fee: Paint Palette: $6.00 Packet: $2.00 SAVE THE DATE! 2019 SEMINAR Lydia Steves March 29-31 Adult Giraffe and Baby Giraffe - Both are 11 x14. The background map paper is not included in workshop. Once the pen and ink is complete finish with your choice of background. ~ Piece of glass or Plexiglas, per size of the project. -You can buy a frame with glass make sure glass is removeable. -If using glass, tape the edges with painter s tape edges can be sharp. Make margin on inking side very narrow. -Clean the glass thoroughly. Don t touch with hands after cleaning. ~ Ink Higgins India Ink (NOT Black Magic). ~ Pens Hunt Crow Quill Pen, nib size 102 & 107 or Technical Pen 0 size. -You CANNOT use a pen like a Sharpie, etc. ~ Palette for oils Styrofoam plate or trays. -Bring a closed container to take extra paint home. ~ Paper towels. ~ Painters tape. ~ Brushes Assorted flats #4, #6, #8, #10. -You might want a couple of each size. -NOT stiff white bristle. ~ Palette knife. Patterns and paint for both Adult Giraffe and Baby Giraffe will be provided. You should have time to ink both and get 1 painted, or ink 1 and get it painted, then do the second one on your own. I have a limited number of Crow Quill Pens to lend. But, you will want your own if you are going to work at home. These are easy to find at all the craft/art stores
