Rotate ruler so it is pointing down; align with strip edge and cut edge and cut again. Repeat with remaining mauve/purple strips. 2
utting Points of Star Point Unit: magic angle Fold star point fabric strip in half, right sides together. y folding the strip, you will cut both a right and a left triangle. lign top of tool with top of strip as show. ut as indicated. Trim off the magic angle. This will make alignment for piecing a breeze. Repeat with remaining star point strips. magic angle With right sides together, lay one Recs triangle on left side of Tri triangle as shown. Note the alignment of the magic angle on the Recs triangle with the bottom of the Tri triangle. lign the long edges as shown and stitch. Press. Repeat with remaining pieces. enter of Star square in a square: Referring to chart, cut the required number of strips for, gold center squares and E, deep mauve centers. ut deep mauve strips (E) into 3 ½ squares. ut center gold strips () into 2 squares. On the wrong side of the 2 squares, draw a diagonal line. With right sides together, place a 2 square () into the corner of a 3 ½ square (E). (See below.) Sew close to diagonal line having stitching a scant towards corner. Repeat in opposite corner. Trim seams to ¼. Press small square toward corner. Sew a 2 square in the remaining corners, trim seams, and press. The finished square should measure 3 ½. Sew the middle row to the left row, add the right row. Press seams to one side. Make 24 Star locks for twin quilt and 44 Star locks for queen quilt. ssembling the quilt: Lay the quilts blocks out, starting with a star block in a corner. Place a nine patch block next to it, than a star block, etc. For a twin quilt, layout is 5 blocks across and eight down. For queen, the layout is 8 blocks across and ten down. Sew blocks together. Sew rows together. order: Strip Size Twin Size Quilt Queen Size Quilt - blue 3 ½ 12 16 - mauve or purple 3 ½ 6 8 Referring to above chart, cut required number of strips for each color. Join all the same color strips together into one long strip by using a miter seam. o this by laying two strips right sides together as shown below. raw a line from the corner of top strip to the corner of bottom strip. Stitch on line. Trim away excess fabric leaving a ¼ seam allowance. Press seam open. Repeat above to join all the same colored strips together. Side orders: Measure down middle of the quilt lengthwise. dd an inch or two to this measurement. ut four blue () strips this length and two mauve/purple () strips. Sew a mauve/purple strip () to a blue strip (). Press seam towards the purple strip. dd another blue strip () to the / strip. gain press seam towards purple strip. ut pieced strip to exact lengthwise measurement you measured originally. Fold strip in half. Mark middle with a straight pin. Fold quilt top in half and mark center on one side. With right sides together, match center of border strip with center of quilt. Pin border to side. Sew. Press. Repeat for the other side. Top and ottom orders: Sew strips together exactly as you did for the sides only use the crosswise measurement for the length. Sew a star block to ends of top border and to ends of bottom border.
