There is a Powermatic lathe listed on ebay for $2250 in Atlanta if interested Safety Notes Safety Tip for making a hollow vessel: stop and remove the chips from the interior often to prevent the tool from catching.
Jim Greenwood s Demonstration on Making a Hollow Lidded Vessel. Jim demonstrated how he makes his terrific hollow forms. He chucked up a piece of wood up and turned the body of the piece, hollowing it with a fostner bit and his home made hollowing tool. He next turned a collar ring to add stability and size the opening. He glued the ring to the opening. Jim next turned a lid with a recess for the finial and then re-mounted the assembly with a chuck and the tailstock to fair the ring and lid in. He then reverse chucked the piece on a jam chuck and tailstock to finish the base. He then turned the finial in five seconds (it seemed like it) Demonstrating his great expertise and finished the piece. Have fun.
