Refer to Diagram F to make a pieced triangle with one border from the Panel (13819-Multi) strip (3 ½" x 23", 8.89cm x 58.42cm), one each Purple Tonal (13823-Purple) strip (1 ½" x 14", 3.81cm x 35.56cm and 1 ½" x 23", 3.81cm x 58.42cm) and one Multi Stripe (13827-White) triangle measuring 8 ½" (21.59cm) on the short sides. Position the pieces as shown, matching the centers. Pin RST, sew, and press. Square up, keeping the triangle centered, to make a pieced triangle measuring 15 ½" (39.37cm) on the short sides. Dia. 8. Follow Diagram J to lay out the blocks and three Panel (13819-Multi) squares (, 38.1cm x 38.1cm) in four rows of three columns. Note the orientation of each block. Match the seams and pin and sew the blocks in each row RST; press. Each row should measure 15" x 43 ½" (38.1cm x 110.49cm). Match the seams, pin, and sew the rows RST; press seams in one direction. The finished quilt top should measure 44" x 58 ½" (113.03cm x 148.59cm). Dia. To make the Navy Large Flowers (13820-Navy) backing, remove the selvages and cut two pieces 21" x 66" (53.34cm x 167.64cm), one piece 11" x 42" (27.94cm x 106.68cm) and one piece 11" x 24 ½" (27.94cm x 62.23cm). Pin and sew the two smaller pieces RST on the short edges, then sew the two 21" x 66" (53.34cm x 167.64cm) pieces on both sides, along the long edges to make a Backing 52" x 66" (132.08cm x 167.64cm) as shown in Diagram K. 10. Press finished quilt top and backing fabric. Tape the backing wrong side up to a firm surface. Layer batting and quilt top (right side up). Baste the layers together with safety pins. Refer to quilting Diagram L for a simple yet creative quilting design. Quilt in-the-ditch (next to the seam) between the blocks to anchor the layers together. Quilt diagonal lines in each block 2" (5.08cm) apart, following the direction of the piecing. Quilt cross-hatch lines 2" (5.08cm) apart in the squares. Use masking tape or a removable marker to create a continuous straight line. Tip: Sewing with an even-feed foot is helpful when quilting through layers. This feeds the fabric more evenly and prevents wrinkles on the back of the quilt. Dia. L 11. Once quilting is complete, square up corners and edges, trimming excess backing and batting even with the quilt top. 12. To make the Purple Tonal (13823-Purple) binding, remove selvages and sew the short ends of the 2 ½" x 42" (6.35cm x 106.8cm) strips RST end to end at a 45 angle to make one continuous strip; press seams open. Press one short end ¼" (6.35mm) to the wrong side. Fold in half lengthwise with wrong sides together; press. Leaving a 2" (5.08cm) tail on the folded end, place cut edges of folded binding even with the edge of the quilt top and sew, mitering the corners. Overlap ends, trim any excess and finish sewing the binding. Fold binding over to back and hand stitch. Dia. M Finished Care Instructions Machine wash in cold water; gentle cycle. Tip: Before drying, check for fabric dyes that may have run. If fabric dyes run, rewash and rinse using Shout Color Catcher. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry low. page 7
