Profiles Dr Claus Trenner President, Singaporean-German of Industry and Commerce Dr Claus Trenner was born in 1971. He is admitted as a lawyer in Germany since 2000 and England since 2002. He studied law at the Universities of Passau and Munich, wrote his PhD thesis at the professorship of Prof. Dr. Hausmann in the field of international procedural law and received his Master of Laws degree from the National University of Singapore. After having worked in the project finance department of a German bank in Singapore and in the banking department of Clifford Chance in Frankfurt, he joined a German law firm in Singapore in 2003, before becoming a partner in Luther s Singapore office in 2008. Claus covers the whole range of corporate and commercial legal activities in Asia. He focuses on M&A, the set-up of regional joint ventures and structuring cross-border transactions including financing and security documentation, advising lenders as well as borrowers. He is member of the Board of several European companies in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Dr Ulrich Sante Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Singapore Dr Ulrich Sante joined the German Foreign Service in 1989. Before his appointment as the German Ambassador to Singapore, Dr Sante was the Deputy Permanent Representative of Germany to NATO in Brussels. He has served, among others, at the German Embassies in Madrid, Washington D.C., Vilnius, and Asuncion as well as the German EU Representation in Brussels. Dr Sante also previously headed the German Federal Foreign Office (FFO) s Division of Common Security and Defence Policy. Dr Sante studied law at the Albert- Ludwigs-University of Freiburg and Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn. He is married to Christina Sante. They have four children.
Dr Hazel Khoo Deputy Executive Director, Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), A*STAR Hazel Khoo is the Deputy Executive Director at the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) of the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR). Her portfolios include overseeing the following SERC Research entities in the sectors of Chemicals, Materials & Energy, Electronics, Infocomm and Engineering as well as strategic and resource planning for SERC including infrastructure and laboratory and cleanroom management and overseeing the competitive funding framework under the domain of advanced manufacturing and engineering. Prior to her appointment at SERC, she was the Director of the A*STAR Joint Council Office from 2008 to 2013 where her portfolio included promoting interdisciplinary research at the interface of biomedical sciences and the physical science and engineering and overseeing the agency s international relations and partnerships. Hazel joined A*STAR in 2001 as one of the pioneers of the Biomedical Medical Research Council (BMRC) and was involved in a wide range of BMRC s core programmes. Prior to this, she spent several years working in the food industry in research, process development and industrialisation. Hazel graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) with an Honours degree in Microbiology and then went on to pursue her Ph.D. with NUS in Biochemistry. Mr Sam Chee Wah, Speaker General Manager of Feinmetall Singapore Pte Ltd Co-Chairman of SGC Mittelstand Committee Mr Sam Chee Wah, General Manager of Feinmetall Singapore has more than 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. From a humble start-up of 5 employees in 2007, he has grown Feinmetall to its current size of 40 employees. The company has propelled from a small repair center to a leading one-stop turnkey design, manufacturing, testing and service center for semiconductor wafer probe card. Feinmetall has received various business awards like Enterprise 50 Award, Singapore Sustainability Award, ASEAN Business Award, International Business Award, Sustainable Growth Award and EYA Enterprise of the Year. In 2015, Mr Sam Chee Wah led Feinmetall Singapore to implement the Business Excellence framework and with this, the company has been honored as the first wafer probe card company to receive the Singapore Quality Class certification. Mr Sam Chee Wah is a firm believer of human capital and productivity management. He implemented various policies to recruit, retain and retrain employees. Furthermore, he initiated measures to innovate, automate and simplify the company manufacturing processes.
Dr Ian Chan, Speaker Scientist, Group Head Manufacturing Execution & Control, Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), A*STAR Dr Ian Chan received his B. Eng in Mechanical Engineering from NUS in 1993, and his M. S. and PhD from Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics Stanford University in 1998 and 2005 respectively. He is a Scientist at Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology, A*STAR, and has been Team Lead for Shopfloor Health Management since 2013 and Group Head for Manufacturing Execution & Control since 2015. His research interests include machine learning, data analytics for feature extraction, fault classification and fault diagnosis, for the applications in condition monitoring and predictive maintenance, with over 30 conference and journal publications to date. Mr Michael Teo, Speaker Company Pool Manager, German Electrical Equipment, SGC Mr Michael Teo is the Business Development Manager for WERMA located in South West of Germany. Mr Teo holds a Master in Business Administration (International) from Edith Cowan University, Diploma in Sales & Marketing from the Curtin University. Mr Teo is a business manager with 24 years Asia Pacific experience in key account management, distributorship management, business development, direct business-to business (B2B) and sales & marketing in the electronic/electrical manufacturing and oil & gas industries. Previously, he worked as Strategic Account Manager & Territorial Sales Manager for a US MNC that is responsible for the strategic planning & sales of the company. Mr Joachim Ihrcke, Panel Discussion Moderator Senior Advisor of DMG MORI Singapore Pte Ltd Co-Chairman of the Mittelstand Committee of SGC Mr Ihrcke is an Electrical Engineer by training and is currently Senior Advisor to DMG MORI Singapore Pte. Ltd., the largest machine tool manufacturer in Germany. He focuses on the development of additive manufacturing applications and industry robots for the machine building industry. Previously, he managed the Asian operation of the German Management Consulting firm Droege Group with offices in Shanghai, Mumbai and Singapore for almost 20 years. Prior to joining Droege Group, Mr Ihrcke was the Managing Director of the German Centre for Industry and Trade Pte Ltd, Singapore, for four years. Mr Ihrcke sat on the Board of Governors of Singapore s Temasek Polytechnic for nine years and held various positions with national and supra-national organizations. Moreover, he is the President Emeritus of the European Chamber of Commerce in Singapore and he chairs the SGC Mittelstands committee. In 1988, Mr Ihrcke was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Dr Tim Philippi, Programme Moderator Executive Director and Board Member Singaporean German Chamber of Industry and Commerce Dr Tim Philippi is Executive Director and Board member of the Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Concurrently he is the Singapore Representative of Germany Trade in Invest (GTAI). He moved to Singapore in 2004 as Delegate of German Industry and Commerce to establish the SGC. Dr Philippi previously was assigned to Asia from 1998 to 2001 as Director for Marketing, Economics and Communication at the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KGCCI/AHK Korea). In between his activities abroad, he was Director at the German Association of Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) in Berlin. Dr Philippi started his professional career at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the Stuttgart Region (IHK) in 1992, where he held various positions. He was Private Secretary to the Executive Director of the Chamber in Stuttgart, Executive Director of the Association of Junior Chambers in the State of Baden Württemberg (JCI) and Senior Manager for Regional Development. He graduated from the University of Stuttgart and has a Doctorate in Science.
