A monthly publication of the Simi Valley Art Association A P R I L 2 0 1 7 President s Message G reetings Members. We had such a wonderful meeting in March. It was held at ourstunning new gallery and it looked so beautiful. All the hard work everyone put in really shows. We had the very talented Madeleine Avirov who showed us the techniques that create her exquisite watercolors. She showed us how her mastery of colors and her attention to intricate detail all blend and weave together to create stunning works of art. I know that I was overwhelmed by her talent. Lucky Stella Kwan won the raffle prize of a lovely print. In April, for our demo we have the very talented oil painter, Sharon Weaver. You can see her amazing range of talent on her website sharonweaver.com. We are so very fortunate to have her for our meeting, I hope many of you will attend. Our Annual Peoples Choice Show will be the weekend of May 6th and 7th. There is no special category this year so paint what moves you! We are having our grand opening that weekend and a very special event by Pong Apinyavat. Pong will be doing a free demo and auction of his works to raise money for our scholarship fund. This is so very generous of him and I know you will all want to attend. I promise it will be a very exciting weekend! GUEST DEMO ARTIST 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at our gallery. The SVAA gallery is located at Store #295, 1555 Simi Town Center Way, Simi Valley. For further info contact Katy Kearny at 805-579-9199 Sharon Weaver No artist is pleased... There is only a divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others. Martha Graham. This quote more than any other describes my struggle and joy as an artist. I see things others do not and strive to capture it on canvas. There is gratification when I find my voice and hear it shout across a room, "Here I am. Look at the harmony of value, color and composition." I struggle to create, to communicate and to improve. Oil paints, brushes and canvas are my tools. While teaching I learn. Sharon Weaver was juried into the Oil Painters of America 20th Annual National Exhibition and an award winner at the Carmel Art Festival. She is a founding member of PAC6 Painters; a group dedicated to painting the beauty and grandeur of the American landscape. Sharon was invited to the San Dimas Art Festival 2015 and received the Bronze Medal for her body of work. Plein Air Magazine has run a feature article on her paintings and process. Sharon teaches an ongoing plein air class, a studio landscape class and a landscape boot-camp workshop, all through Kline Academy of Fine Art A P R I L 2 0 1 7 2
