Newsletter: June, 2014 President s Message Debbie Strobel Last night s meeting was an interesting exercise in mixing pastel colors. I must admit that I almost never try to mix colors. My first thought is to just buy another stick of pastel! Lois exercise made me think about trying mixing instead. The small charts we made will be useful for seeing the possibilities of mixing. The Garvan Gardens show has come down and we will be preparing for our next show at Community Bakery. This is open to all members and there is no entry fee. It will be put up on Sunday, August 3 rd, so you will not be able to deliver your painting to a meeting since we will not meet in July. Sister Maria is in charge of this show and will be sending out instructions through our Google Group and our Facebook page. Remember that any painting put at Community Bakery will not be down in time for the Juried Show that starts October 1 st. Speaking of the Juried Show, things are moving along and the online registration will be up very soon. Since our membership is not that large, and the Cox Center has a large gallery, there is an excellent chance that you can get one or both of your paintings in the show. This would give you 2 points toward Signature Membership, and more if you win one of the top awards! The deadline for entering is August 1 st, less than two months away. So start working on something for the show now!!! In sad news, it was just announced that Starving Artist Café has closed its doors. I will personally miss that restaurant very much. It was a wonderful combination of restaurant and art gallery. I am hoping that someone will make an attempt to get it open again in the future. Remember: No meeting in July!!! Enjoy your summer and take your vacations, then be ready to meet again in August!
Our monthly meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 PM in the Arkla Room of the Center for Health Education Building of St. Vincent s Hospital. If you need directions, go to http://www.arkpastel.com/contact-us and click on the link. Note: - we do not meet in July. June Program Lois Davis Lois challenged us to build our pastel palette by making many colors from a few, and by making multiple values from one color. Two exercises challenged us - to say the least!
