Just Takes 2 Block 10 Quilt 1201 Instructions Prepare pattern 1. Copy or print fan block on freezer paper. 2. Shade the red areas with a pencil. 3. Make tic marks at end of each blade into the white area. You will use these to match seams when you put the block together. 4. On each of the outside edges, draw an arrow. You will be adding a half-inch outside seam allowance, and this arrow will be a reminder. 5. Number the fan blades from 1-9 6. Cut freezer paper copy of fan block apart as follows: a. The red quarter circle b. The fan blades as one unit foundation pattern provided on separate page c. The white piece around large side of fan (Diagram 1) B. Sew block 1. Foundation piece the blade sections and trim seam allowances to ¼ inch 2. Iron freezer paper quarter circle to the back of red fabric, cut out with ½ inch seam allowances on the straight side and ¼ inch seam allowance on curve (Diagram 2) Either appliqué or hand-piece this quarter circle onto the fan blades, matching tic marks. NOTE: you must clip the inside seam allowance on the blades if you hand-piece 3. Prepare the large white piece in the same manner as the red quarter circle: iron freezer paper on the back of the white fabric, seam allowance of half-inch on outside edges, one-quarter inch on curve. Appliqué or hand-piece the blade section, matching tic marks. Again, if you hand-piece, clip seam allowance on the inside curve. 4. Remove freezer paper and trim block to 6.5 inches Diagram 1 Diagram 2 These instructions assume you have a basic quilting knowledge. There are online tutorials in the Instructions section at Sentimental Stitches and in the Dear Jane Software.

Just Takes 2 Block 11 Quilt 517 Instructions The schoolhouse block is made using two methods of construction: freezer paper templates and rotary cutting. The freezer paper technique will be an easier way to handle the angled pieces of the house, while rotary cutting is certainly the best way to deal with the straight pieces. Freezer paper templates Make freezer paper templates of A, D, H,I and J. NOTE: These templates have been reversed or your block would be turned in the opposite direction. Iron templates A, D and J to the wrong side of the background (white) fabric Iron templates H and I to the wrong side of the color (red) fabric Rotary cut the pieces by adding ¼ inch seam allowance to each side of the freezer paper template. Leave the freezer paper on the fabric. Rotary Cutting * optional templates are provided Background (white) cut one 2.5 X 4.5 inch rectangle (C) two 1.5 X 1.5 inch squares (B) two 1.5 X 5.5 inch rectangles (E) three 1.5 X 2.5 inch rectangles (F) Color (red) cut one 1.5 X 3.5 inch rectangle (G) two 1.5 X 1.5 inch squares (B) two 1.5 X 5.5 inch rectangles (E) five 1.5 X 2.5 inch rectangles (F) H I J D Freezer paper templates A Assembly 1. Sew together three red and two white F pieces to form window section. 2. Sew together the 4 rotary cut pieces E and the window section between them. Diagram A 3. Sew the door and other two F pieces together and add red G. Diagram B 4. You are now ready to assemble the front of the house and the roof 5. Leaving the freezer paper on piece H, join the bottom section from #2. Diagram C Stitch along the freezer paper, but do not stitch in the seam allowance 6. Join piece I to J, again stitching only along the freezer paper. 7. Join section I-J to the section you pieced in #1 Diagram D 8. Stitch the chimneys to piece C (Diagram E) and sew this sew section to the roof section you made in #5. Diagram F 9. Sew H F-G unit to chimney, roof, window unit. Diagram G 10. Now stitch piece A to chimney, and then to H Diagram H 11. Sew D to the chimney on the right and to the roof I Diagram I 12. Remove freezer paper and press your beautiful block! These instructions assume you have a basic quilting knowledge. There are online tutorials in the Instructions section at Sentimental Stitches and in the Dear Jane Software.
