Designer Notes These directions are to make either the COTTON CANDY or KEY LIME color versions. Fabrics solely listed in the Cutting Directions are used in both versions. Otherwise, fabrics are listed according to the COTTON CANDY version first. Immediately following, in brackets, are fabrics for the KEY LIME version. Blocks #1, #2, #3, and #4 are pieced exactly alike except for the fabric colors. The fabric colors change but the print placement remains the same. The quilt is comprised of a total of 20 blocks (make 5 blocks each of the 4 different colorways). Cutting Directions Note: A widthwise cut (WOF) is from selvage to selvage. Cut and subcut in order as given as several subcuts are from the remains of previously cut strips. 23688 K, L, P, Q [23688 A, B, H, S] Fabric A (lattice Cut (5) 4½" squares and (5) 3½" squares (for Blocks). 23689 K, L, P, Q [23689 A, B, H, S] Fabric B (waves Cut (3) 4½" x WOF strips. Subcut (20) 2½" x 4½" rectangles (for Blocks). 23690 K, L, P, Q [23690 A, B, H, S] Fabric C (bubbles Cut (3) 3½" x WOF strips. Subcut (20) 2½" x 3½" rectangles (for Blocks). 23691 K, L, P, Q [23691 A, B, H, S] Fabric D (gingham-check Cut (3) 3½" x WOF strips. Subcut (20) 2½" x 3½" rectangles (for Blocks). Cut (3) 2½" x WOF strips. Subcut (20) 2½" squares (for Blocks). 21521 Z Fabric F (white tonal) Block Sashing Cut (1) 11½" x WOF strips. Subcut into (15) 2½" x 11½" rectangles. Row Sashing Cut (9) 2½" x WOF strips. Sew the strips together (end to end) using 45 seams to make a continuous strip. Subcut (4) 2½" x 50½" rectangles. Reserve remaining continuous strip. Inner Border From reserved continuous strip, subcut (2) 2½" x 63½" rectangles. Cut (3) 2" x WOF strips. Sew the strips together (end to end) using 45 seams to make a continuous strip. Subcut (2) 2" x 54½" rectangles. 23692 L [23692 S] Fabric G (pin-dot Binding Cut (7) 2½" x WOF strips. Quilt Instructions Block 1 Assembly 1. Inner Block Row 1. 3. Referring to Diagram 3 and noting orientation of the pieces, sew the Inner Block Row 2 between two Inner Block Row 1 for Inner Block. Inner Block should measure 8½" square. Diagram 6 Diagram 3 4. Referring to Diagram 4, sew four pieces together in the following order: 2½" x 3½" Fabric C (bubbles rectangle, 2½" x 3½" Fabric D (gingham-check rectangle, 2½" x 3½" Fabric C (bubbles rectangle, 2½" x 3½" Fabric D (gingham-check rectangle for Block Outer Side Border. Block #2, #3, and #4 Assembly 7. Repeat Steps 1 through 6 for remaining block colorways (Blocks #2 #4), making a total of five blocks per colorway. Quilt Assembly Note: Refer to the Quilt Layout Diagram for the following steps. Each row has a total of four Blocks. Each Block (#1 #4) is used once per row. 8. Block Row 1. Noting orientation and position of the Blocks, sew 7 pieces together as follows: Block 1, 2½" x 11½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block 2, 2½" x 11½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block 3, 2½" x 11½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block 4 for Block Row 1. 9. Block Row 2. Noting orientation and position of the Blocks, sew 7 pieces together as follows: Block 4, 2½" x 11½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block 3, 2½" x 11½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block 2, 2½" x 11½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block 1 for Block Row 2. Diagram 4 5. Referring to Diagram 5, sew five pieces together in the following order: 2½" x 3½" Fabric C (bubbles rectangle, 2½" x 3½" Fabric D (gingham-check rectangle, 2½ x 3½ Fabric C (bubbles rectangle, 2½" x 3½" Fabric D (gingham-check rectangle, 3½" Fabric A (lattice square for Block Outer Bottom Border. Diagram 5 10. Sew rows together as foll: Block Row 1, one 2½" x 50½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block Row 2, one 2½" x 50½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block Row 1, one 2½" x 50½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block Row 2, one 2½" x 50½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle, Block Row 1. Quilt Center should measure 50½" x 63½". 11. Inner Border. Sew one 2½" x 63½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle to each long side of the Quilt Center. 6. Referring to Diagram 6 and noting orientation of the pieces, sew Block Outer Side Border to the right side of the Inner Block Unit. Sew the Block Outer Bottom Border to the bottom edge of the Inner Block Unit for Block 1. Block 1 should measure 11½" square. Make a total of five Block 1. 5
Finishing 1. Prepare backing to measure approx. 66" x 78". Press seams open. 2. Layout the quilt top right side up on top of the batting and wrong side of the backing fabric. 3. Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim backing and batting even with the quilt top. 4. Sew the seven 2½" x WOF Fabric G (pin-dot strips together (end to end) using 45 seams to make a continuous strip. Fold strip in half lengthwise (with wrong sides together) and press. Bind as desired. Sew one 2" x 54½" Fabric F (white tonal) rectangle to each short side of the Quilt Center. Quilt Center should measure 54½" x 63½". 12. Outer Pieced Border. From the (135) 2½" squares cut for the Outer Border, only 124 are needed. Sew together (33) 2½" Outer Border squares as desired (or use Quilt Layout Diagram as a guide) for each Outer Side Border. Sew an Outer Side Border to each long side of the Quilt Center. Sew together (29) 2½" Outer Border squares as desired (or use Quilt Layout Diagram as a guide) for each Top/Bottom border. Sew each Top/Bottom border to each short side of the Quilt Center. Quilt Top should measure 58½" x 70½". Quilt Layout Diagram 6 Not for resale / Fall 2014
