BRIGHTON & HOVE ARTISTS PACK #BeMoreSnail We invite you to come out of your shell in Autumn 2018 Registered Charity No. 802145.
03 We re delighted to be working with Wild in Art for the second time to deliver another spectacular art installation throughout Brighton & Hove. In 2016 we were delighted by the great success of our Snowdogs by the Sea, which in addition to raising 310,000 for Martlets, brought joy and creativity to the city. We re incredibly excited to exhibit a second city-wide art installation, which will feature another lovable character: the Snail! The sculpture resonates so wonderfully with the work we do at Martlets. Our lifechanging hospice care helps people do the things they love with the time they have. In this fast-paced city it s often hard to remember to slow down and appreciate the things in life that make us smile. The bright and beautifully painted snails across our city will be a constant reminder to take a moment to enjoy the time we have with the people we share our lives with. We can t wait to see each sculpture and enjoy our city s sights at a snail s pace! Imelda Glackin, CEO, Martlets

hints and tips for producing your design 07 1. Snailspace is an interactive event, so please keep in mind that your sculpture will be repeatedly touched by the public. Artists may attach items to the sculpture, however, unless secured robustly, add-ons may be removed or damaged. 2. While we welcome all art forms, collage and/or sticking paper or paper-based products on to the sculpture does not prove as effective as paring or mosaics. Please consider this before submitting your design. 3. Art materials are not provided. The use of acrylic paints is recommended although artificial resin paint or two-component paint can also be used to create a design. To complete your sculpture, it must be finished with a waterproof non-yellowing varnish, provided by Martlets. 4. Artists will not be responsible for placing their sculpture on the streets or collecting them at the end of the event. We do, however, ask artists to be available during and after the event for any touch-up work that may be required. If an artist is unavailable another artist will carry out this work. 5. You may submit up to three designs but please be aware that no more than two can be commissioned by a single artist. 6. We will require you to sign our standard copyright agreement for each design you submit. This is included in the artist s submission form. 7. When planning your designs, please bear in mind that they should be appropriate for public display to a mass audience. Designs that are overtly religious, political or sexual in nature will not be accepted. Additionally, neither corporate logos nor advertising is allowed. 8. Artists may alter the basic sculpture shape but if doing so, must ensure the finished work remains structurally intact. It is recommended that only artists experienced in working with fibreglass submit designs that use this process. 9. Martlets will provide a painting space in a central location in the city for you to create your Snail if you do not have space at home or in a studio. Should you wish to paint your sculpture in your own studio, you will be responsible for collecting and returning it to the painting space. Join The Snailway today!
