HIH VOLTAE PROXIMITY DETECTOR An ISO 01:2008 Cmpany Mdel 275 HP (Upt 275KV) / 500 HP (Upt 500KV) The / 500HP is a HIH VOLTAE prximity detectr. has eight vltage detectin settings frm t 275KVac. & 500HP has 10 Vltage detectin settings frm 240V t 500KV. The / 500HP cnsists f an internal pickup sensr plate, a sensitivity selectr, a visual and a sund annunciatr. With the / 500HP physical cntact with electrical cnductrs is nt necessary when testing fr live lines. This tester wrks by prximity. Its sensr senses the radiated field which surrunds live cnductrs. Radiated field strength increases with vltage & decreases quickly with distance r earth shielding. The radiated field frm a cable f clsely bunched cnductrs supplied by three phase pwer tends t cancel (See Limitatins f use paragraph). Detecting distance f a 250Vac single live wire is apprximately. With a bunched neutral and earth cable, as in a flexible cable, the distance is reduced t. Sme f the typical users are : identify and check live cables; find fault in flexible cables; check earth equipment; service nen lightning; trace live wires; check high frequency radiatin ; detect residual r induced vltages. Fr example, faults in damaged flexible cables are fund by applying lw vltage t each cnductr. Earthing the remainder and mving the tester alng the cable until the change in cnditin is btained. (Flexible cables which are used in mining and building industries, are readily repairable when the break in the cable is lcated.) When using fr high vltage, the rtary switch (attenuatr) is used t identify and differentiate varius HV live cables. The tester must be used in cnjunctin with a lng and insulating rd when measuring high vltage (KV). Hwever, the 275 HP / 500HP is a nn cntact tester and it is advised that the tester shuld never cme in t cntact with cables (KV) as this tester is merely a nn-cntact AC prximity tester. Checking r prfing the tester is easy. Switch the sensitivity t 240V AC and place the dme against a lw vltage live cnductr r rub the dme with a clth r against an item f clthing as this generates a static DC which triggers the detectin f circuit. The light and beeper shuld g n as if a live wire is being apprached. Appraching the dme near a cmputer screen r a TV screen (nt liquid crystal display type) shuld als trigger the tester while n 240V selectin. FEATURES : 8 Vltage s : 240V, 2KV, 6KV, 11KV, 22KV, 33KV, 132KV and 275KV AC (Mdel ). 10 Vltage s : 240V, 3.3KV, 11KV, 22KV, 33KV, 66KV,110KV, 220KV, 330KV, 500KV (Mdel 500HP). Self test selectin. Nn-cntact wrk by prximity. Use 3 x 1.5V C batteries High bright LEDs visual indicatin. Detect lw vltage n any systems. Easy access t batteries. Sund indicatin. Cmpatible with mst link sticks. High impact nyln casing. Sealed by 0 rings Suitable fr indr and utdr use. Light weight, rbust, & cmpact. Weight : Apprx. 500g. SAFETY: Meets EN61000-3-2; EN61000-3-3; EN61326-1; EN55011 EN61000-4-2; EN61000-4-3; EN61000-4-4; EN61000-4-5; EN61000-4-6; EN61000-4-11. But if the range selected is PC22KV, yu need t be clser (14cm) t detect the PC11KV cnductr. LIMITATIONS OF USE : It is recmmended that the / 500HP is nt used in HV yards f mixed vltages. In the presence f mixed vltages, the tester can becme unreliable. Prblems can arise when the tertiary circuit f a 275/133/11KV transfrmer is tested. The electric field f the HV and MV bus bars can trigger the detectr when it is abve 3m abve the grund. This is cmmn with mst f the electric field vltage detectrs, and the users shuld be aware f it. The tester can pick up adjacent circuit t the ne being tested and indicate the wrng infrmatin t the user. Open the battery cver (turn cunter-clckwise) t remve the batteries. Ensure plarity is respected. Safety Rules The Hi-Prx has been designed with safety in mind. Hwever, n design can cmpletely prtect against incrrect use. Electrical circuits are dangerus and lethal thrugh lack f cautin r pr safety practice. The fllwing rules shuld reduce the danger: Read the user manual carefully and cmpletely befre using the tester. Fully understand the instructins befre using this prduct. Fllw the instructins fr every test. Take all the necessary precautins. D nt exceed the limits f this instrument. The Hi-Prx must never be in physical cntact with any cnductr higher than 1kV. This is a prximity detectr, nt a detectr which wrks by cntact. Always use a fiber glass rd r any authrized stick. A high vltage test is carried ut with the tester attached t an perating stick, smetimes called links stick. Verify the rtary switch setting befre measuring. Make sure it is n the crrect setting fr yur applicatin. Always check that the Hi-Prx is wrking befre and after the test. D nt tuch any expsed wiring, cnnectins, r ther live parts f an electrical circuit. This instrument shuld nly be used by a cmpetent, suitably trained persn wh understands this test prcedure fully. Persnnel wrking with high vltage shuld be trained regularly. 10 03

eneral Descriptin The Hi-Prx cnsists f an internal pickup sensr plate, a rtary switch as sensitivity selectr, a sund annunciatr (high pitch, high pwer buzzer), a visual indicatr (high bright LEDs), and three C size batteries. The Hi-Prx detects AC vltages using the sensr plate. The sensr plate cllects part f the radiated electric field (V/M). The electric field is seen by the internal circuitry and triggers the input f a CMOS integrated circuit. The integrated circuit charges a capacitr via a dide. Once that capacitr reaches a certain level, the buzzer and LEDs annunciatr are turned ON. The trigger level is fixed (CMOS lgical level change). The self-test inserts a vltage n the sensr plate, just like if the sensr wuld pick up a vltage. The Hi-Prx allws identificatin f AC vltages frm 220Vac t 275kVac. The enclsure is made ut f industrial grade plyurethane. The enclsure can be attached t a link stick. The small cylinder part f the Hi-Prx fits int mst link stick adaptrs. High Vltage Testing The rtary switch (attenuatr) is used t identify and differentiate varius HV live cables. The tester must be used in cnjunctin with a lng and insulating rd when measuring high vltage (kv). Nn-Cntact It is advised that the tester shuld never cme int cntact with cables (kv) as this tester is merely a nn-cntact AC prximity tester. Limitatins On The Hi-Prx It is recmmended that this tester is nt used in HV yards f mixed vltages. In the presence f mixed vltages, the tester can becme unreliable. Prblems can arise when the tertiary circuit f a 275/133/ transfrmer is tested. The electric field f the HV and MV bus bars can trigger the detectr when it is abut 3m abve the grund. This is cmmn with mst f the electric field vltage detectrs. Users shuld be aware f it. The tester can pick up adjacent circuit t the ne being tested and indicates the wrng infrmatin t the user. 04 09
