Summer Reading at the Portsmouth Public Library Summer is without a doubt our favorite time of year. Why? Summer Reading, of course. This time honored program encourages young people to continue reading over the summer when they are not in school. This year we are hosting both a children s program as well as a teen program. Children s Summer Reading We are so excited about this year s theme, Dig into Reading. We ve got so much planned. Each child will be encouraged to read ten books and take part in our supplemental programs. When they have read their ten books, the will receive a prize. Children will also have the opportunity to experience different events related to the summer s theme. Each event comes with new experiences and opportunities to learn and play. Each event will be offered at all our library branch locations at some point during the summer. Have a look at our events. Digging into the Past Join us as we journey into the past to Ancient Egypt. You can create your own Egyptian bracelet, complete with your name in Egyptian hieroglyphics. We will also be creating authentic Egyptian collars to wear. Come to the library and experience the past! Construction Zone @ the Library Vroom! Vroom! Construction is underway kids! You will be designing your own blueprint, building a tower with Legos, gravel races and visiting a wet paint station where you will be painting with toy cars. So get your construction hats on and come out for the fun! Planting Great Ideas We will be making a seed sprouting activity and a Snug as a Bug Sensory bottle. We will also learn some fun facts about soil and the creatures that live in our soil. Magnificent Mining What lies beneath? Find out at Magnificent Mining.
