PD-94595A AME5046 SERIES EMI FILTER HYBRID-HIGH RELIABILITY Descriptio The AME Series of EMI filters have bee desiged to provide full compliace with the iput lie reflected ripple curret requiremet specified by CE03 of MIL- STD-46C over the full military temperature rage while operatig i cojuctio with the correspodig AFL series of DC-DC coverters. These filters are offered as part of a complete family of coversio products providig sigle ad dual output voltages while operatig from omial +28, +50 or +270 iput lie voltage. Other coverters operatig with a similar switchig frequecy will also beefit by use of this device. These EMI filters are hermetically packaged i two eclosure variatios, utilizig copper-core pis to miimize resistive DC losses. Three lead styles are available, each fabricated with Iteratioal Rectifiers s rugged ceramic lead-to-package seal assurig log term hermetic seal itegrity i harsh eviromets. Maufactured i a facility fully qualified to MIL-PRF- 38534, these coverters are available i four screeig grades to satisfy a wide rage of applicatios. The CH grade is fully compliat to the requiremets of MIL- PRF-38534 for class H. The HB grade is fully processed ad screeed to the class H requiremet, but does ot iclude elemet evaluatio to the class H requiremet. The Block Diagram describes the geeral arragemet of the pricipal elemets which have bee coected to provide both differetial ad ormal mode bufferig betwee the iput ad output termials. Employig oly passive elemets, AME filter operatio is iitiated simply by isertio ito the iput power path betwee oe or more DC-DC coverters ad their iput DC voltage bus. I this coectio, output pis of the filter will be coected to iput pis of the coverters. Whe a sigle AME filter is used i cojuctio with multiple DC-DC coverters, the use will be limited to the maximum output curret capability specified i the AME electrical table. A typical coectio utilizig oe filter to drive two coverters is illustrated o page. Although expressly desiged to complemet the AFL series of DC-DC coverters, the AME5046 filters ca be successfully operated i cojuctio with other coverters i the Advaced Aalog lie icludig the ASA, AHF, AHV ad ATR series. To calculate the iput curret (i i ) requiremet of ay oe coverter, first determie the maximum output power by multiplyig output voltage by maximum load curret, divide this power by the efficiecy to obtai iput power ad the divide iput power by iput voltage to obtai the iput curret (i i ). Note that to obtai worst case iput curret, you must use maximum load curret, miimum efficiecy ad miimum lie voltage i this calculatio. www.irf.com 3
