Place a 4 3 8 (11.12cm) Fabric S8 square, right sides together with a 4 3 8 (11.12cm) Fabric P square. Sew 1 4 (.635cm) on each side of the marked line. Cut the unit in half on the drawn line. Make a total of (8) matching HST that measure 4 (10.16cm) square (Fig. 2). Fig. 2 Make 8 2. Arrange (2) HST, (1) 4 (10.16cm) Fabric P square, and (1) 4 (10.16cm) Fabric S8 square as shown. Feather Units 3. Place a 2 1 2 (6.35cm) Fabric S8 square right sides together with a 2 1 2 (6.35cm) Fabric P square. Sew 1 4 (.64cm) on each side of the marked line. Cut the unit in half on the drawn line (Fig. 4). Make (16) matching HST units that measure 2 1 8 (5.39cm) square. 4. Place a 2 1 2 (6.35cm) Fabric S8 square right sides together with a 2 1 2 (6.35cm) Fabric L square. Sew 1 4 (.64cm) on each side of the marked line. Cut the unit in half on the drawn line. Make (16) matching HST units that measure 2 1 8 (5.39cm) square. Corner Unit 5. Arrange a unit created in Step 2 above, (1) 2 1 8 (5.39cm) Fabric A square, (2) Fabric A diamonds, (2) Piece 1 Fabric S8 HST, (2) HST units created in Step 3, and (2) HST units created in Step 4. Sew these pieces together to complete the corner unit (Fig. 5). Make a total of (4) corner units. Fig. 5 Fig. 4 Corner Unit Make 4 Make 16 Side Units 6. Arrange a Piece 2 Fabric S8 triangle, (1) 2 1 8 (5.39cm) Fabric A square, (2) Piece 1 Fabric S8 HST, (2) HST units created in Step 3, and (2) HST units created in Step 4. Sew these pieces together using partial seams when sewing to the Piece 2 triangle (Fig. 6). Make a total of (4) units. Make 16 Fig. 6 Partial Seam Make 4 6 of 10

7. Complete the side units with (2) Piece 3 Fabric H and (1) Piece 4 Fabric P (Fig. 7). Fig. 7 Feathered Star Block 9. Arrange a side unit and (2) corner units as shown in Figure 8. Sew together, then complete the partial seam. Make (2) units (Fig. 9). Fig. 9 Complete partial seam Side Unit Make 4 Center Unit 8. To make the center unit arrange (1) 3 1 4 (8.26cm) Fabric L square, (4) 2 1 2 x 3 1 4 (6.35cm x 825cm) Fabric A rectangles, and (4) Piece 4 Fabric P Triangles as shown. Sew the units into rows, then sew the rows together. Complete the Center Unit with (4) Piece 5 Fabric L Triangles (Fig. 8). Fig. 8 Sew corner and side units together, completing partial seams. Make 2 10. Arrange the block center with the (2) remaining side units and the sections created in Step 9 above. Sew the units to the block center, then sew the rows together to complete the block, completing the partial seams (Fig. 10 on page 8). Blocks 2 9 11. Repeat Steps 1-10 using the fabrics listed in the chart on page 8 to make Blocks 2-9. Center Unit 7 of 10

Quilt Top Assembly 12. Following the Quilt Layout diagram on page 9 for placement and orientation, lay out the blocks in (3) rows of (3) blocks each. 13. Sew together the blocks in each row, pressing seams in alternate directions for adjacent rows. Sew the rows together to complete the quilt top. Fig. 10 Fig. 10 Finishing 14. Sew together the 2 1 2 (6.35cm) Fabric E binding strips end to end using diagonal seams. Press the seams open. Press the binding strip in half wrong sides together. 15. Layer the backing (wrong side up), batting, and quilt top (right side up). Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Trim excess batting and backing even with the top after quilting is completed. 16. Leaving an 8 (20.32cm) tail of binding, sew binding to top of quilt through all layers matching all raw edges. Miter corners. Stop approximately 12 (30.48cm) from where you started. Lay both loose ends of binding flat along quilt edge. Where these two loose ends meet, fold them back on themselves and press to form a crease. Using this crease as your stitching line, sew the two open ends of the binding together right sides together. Trim seam to 1 4 (.64cm) and press open. Finish sewing binding to quilt. 17. Turn the binding to the back of quilt and hand-stitch in place.
