Sewing Directions: Press seams open and use ¼ seams, unless otherwise indicated. Spool Block 1. From the print fabrics, select two large and two small HSTs, making sure the prints match. From the background fabric, select two large HSTs, two small HSTs, two rectangles, and two small squares. Arrange the patches as shown in the block diagram.. Join one large print and one large background half square triangle along the long edge. Press the seams open. Repeat with the remaining large and small HSTs to make two large and two small HST units.. Join one small HST unit to a small background square. Press the seams open. Join a rectangle to one long edge to make a corner unit. Press the seam open. Make two corner units. 4. Arrange the corner and large HST units in two rows of two units each as shown. Partial Spool Block 1. From the print fabrics, select one large and three small HSTs, and one small square, making sure the prints match. From the background fabrics, select one large and three small HSTs, two small squares, and one rectangle. Arrange the patches as shown in the block diagrams, below, to make either a right or a left partial spool block.. Join the large print and background HST together along the long edge. Join each pair of small print and background HSTs along the long edges. Press the seams open.. Referring to the block diagrams, join each small HST unit to either a print or a background small square. Press the seams open. Join a background rectangle to one of the joined units. Press the seam open. 4. Referring to the block diagrams, join the remaining HST/small square unit to a rectangle unit or large HST. Press the seams open. Kite Block 1. From the print fabrics, select four kite patches, making sure the prints match. From the background fabric, select eight kite side triangles. Arrange the patches as shown in the block diagram, making sure the kite sides are oriented correctly.. Aligning notched points, join one kite side triangle to each long edge of one kite patch. Press the seams toward the side triangles. Make four kite corners.. Arrange the four kite corners in two rows of two units each as shown. Join the units in each row together along adjacent edges. Press the seams open. Join the rows together. Press the seams open. Assemble the Quilt Top 1. Arrange 4 small print squares in a row as shown. Join the squares along adjacent edges and press the seams open. Make eight sets of joined small squares. 015 AccuQuilt PQ10744 Page 18 of 1

Referring to the Quilt Assembly Diagram, arrange the small squares from Step 1, and the spool, partial spool, and kite blocks into five rows, using two square sets and five spool blocks each for rows 1 and 5, two square sets and five kite blocks each for rows and 4, and four spool and two partial spool blocks for row. Rotate the spool blocks as shown.. Sew the blocks in each row together. Join the squares sets to rows 1,, 4, and 5. Press the seams open. Sew the rows together, and press the seams away from the kite block rows. 015 AccuQuilt PQ10744 Page 19 of 1

4. Join one small print HST to one small background HST along the long edge. Press the seams open. Make 4 small HST units. 5. Arrange 0 small print squares and two small HST units from Step 4 as shown, noting the orientation of the HSTs. Join the squares and units along adjacent edges, and press the seams open to make a border strip. Make two border strips. 6. Join one Step 5 border strip to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press the seams toward the border strips. Quilting and Finishing: 1. Remove selvedges. Cut one 5" length from yardage. Cut three 6" x WOF strips from remaining yardage. Join 6" strips along short ends and cut in half to form two narrow side panels. Attach one side panel to each long edge of 5" panel for backing.. Layer the batting between the quilt top and backing, with the wrong sides facing the batting. Pin or baste the layers together. Quilt as desired.. Trim the batting and backing even with the quilt top edges. 4. Sew the binding strips together along the short ends, using either straight or diagonal seams. Press the strip in half lengthwise, with wrong sides together. Stitch the binding to the quilt front, matching raw edges and mitering corners. Fold the binding to the quilt back, encasing the raw edges. Handstitch the binding to the quilt back. 015 AccuQuilt PQ10744 Page 0 of 1
