ETL-40V CABLE TEST VAN SYSTEM DC cable testing up to 40kV with 300mA max. current Burning up to 20kV / 1A Surge energy up to 2000J Precise pinpointing and fault prelocation Fault location using step voltage mode Highly reliable and safe operation
2 Cable test van system The ETL-40V Vehicle based system ensures efficient non-destructive cable fault location on low to medium voltage cables up to 40kV. The fault location system combines: a surge wave generator a time domain reflectometer an audio frequency generator and a cable fault detector which allows for a variety of cable diagnostics and testing procedures user-friendly interface enables both expert technicians and personnel with little experience in cable fault location to perform effortless testing. The cable testing and fault locating equipment supplied is based on test sets from KEP s product range and may be customized to specific test applications. Hipot and TDR testing The test system supports the most popular cable fault location methods, including thumping (or acoustic method) and the techniques of time domain reflectometry. The surge mode provides DC testing of cable integrity at up to 32kV and surge energy up to 2000J. The standard TDR methods of pulse echo, arc reflection, impulse current and voltage decay ensure accurate cable fault prelocation. Pinpointing Acoustic pinpointing of cable faults is easily achieved with the surge wave generator in conjunction with the P-900 ground microphone. Pinpointing of a sheath fault is delivered either with pulsed DC step-voltage or the burn mode. The modular type of the ETL-40V test system allows the installation of 50W or 200 W audio frequency generators to aid line tracing and cable fault pinpointing. Highly reliable and safe operation A range of the system s safety features includes high voltage interlocks, emergency stop, key switch, and rear door interlock which delivers high levels of safety during operation. All the test sets are equipped with operational, protective and auxiliary earth. The independent GCU-3 module monitors the resistance between operational earth and protective earth, and the voltage between protective and auxiliary earth. In addition, the high safety standards are maintained through the use of the isolating transformer. If the cable under test breaks down, the integrated overcurrent trip will make sure no damage is done to the object being tested.

Time Domain Reflectometer The integrated RIF-9 Time Domain Reflectometer, with its bright, high contrast, high resolution, 10.4-inch TFT touch-screen display, allows straightforward navigation through the system s menus. Alternatively, the reflectometer can be operated with a control knob. The RIF-9 integrates a range of fault prelocation methods. The reflectometer incorporates both RS 485 and USB interfaces. Test measurements are saved in the database and can be processed with the optional PC software. The firmware is easily updated using a USB memory stick. 6 LFG-50 LFG-50 in the set Audio Frequency Systems For the purposes of line tracing and accurate fault location, the ETL 40V integrates the LFG audio frequency system, with either a 50W (LFG-50) or 200W (LFG 200) low frequency generator. The LFG provides automatic load adjustment, single or multi-frequency operation, and overload protection. An audio frequency signal can be transmitted directly or inductively from a built-in antenna or clamps (optional). Operation frequency levels of the following sets: 526Hz, 1024Hz, 8928Hz or 491Hz, 982Hz, 8440Hz and 480Hz, 1450Hz, 9820Hz are preset. Any customs frequencies (400Hz to 10 000 Hz range) can be added on request. When several cable systems are in close proximity, the LFG allows quick and easy cable identification. The LFG display reads the main test parameters such as the output power, load impedance, and selected frequency. If a load is higher than 1000Ω, the LFG will automatically offer to set the output voltage. If a short occurs or the load impedance is below 0.5Ω, the output overload protection will trip. LFG-200
