The HCA will set out their expectations and how organisations can effectively deliver against the standard. Organisations are also required to demonstrate the social impact of their activities. This session will look at effective measures for measuring and demonstrating social value. 14.50 Refreshment break 15.10 Benchmarking understanding where you are Vicky Johnson, Director of Data Services, HouseMark It is essential that organisations are able to demonstrate their impact a key way to understand your own performance is to benchmark with others on both cost and performance. This session will explore the benefits and pitfalls of benchmarking and help you understand the value of comparing data. 15.50 Delivering & demonstrating VfM in Asset Management Richard Medley, Director, Assets & Neighbourhoods, CIH Consultancy In today s economic and regulatory climate, there is a clear need for a more intelligent approach to asset management. Gary Stephens, Procurement Director, Orbit Services Gary has worked in the housing sector as a director for a number of years, supporting Orbit and other housing providers to achieve improved procurement outcomes by embedding a strategic approach to procurement which includes effective approaches to Spend Analysis, Category Management and e-procurement so as to successfully deliver business plan outcomes. Peter Lunio, Associate Director, Baker Tilly Risk Advisory Services LLP He is a recognised leading authority on the key trends in cost reduction and VFM having published many articles in leading journals on the subject and has been a guest speaker NHF conferences on the topic.he also runs Baker Tilly Social Housing Benchmarking Programme, Speaker Biographies Jonathan Walters, Deputy Director of Strategy and Performance, HCA Jonathan leads the HCA Regulation s Strategy and Performance Team, with responsibility for a wide range of areas including strategic planning, sector analysis, supporting the supply of private finance as well as registrations and regulation of for profit organisations. He has previously worked in both the public and private sectors, including Ernst and Young and social housing consultancy. In addition to his financial expertise, Jonathan holds an MSc in Urban and Regional studies from the University of Birmingham, with a particular interest in regeneration and economic development. Ginny Warr, Head of Procurement, Sovereign Housing Association Ginny is an experienced procurement professional with over 25 years experience gained from working in blue chip businesses within a global environment. She has a broad knowledge of all aspects of Procurement and specialises in leading major business transformation activities. Ginny joined Sovereign as Head of Procurement in January 2012 following a successful career at Vodafone. Philip Toni, Director of Finance, Wolverhampton Homes Prior to joining Wolverhampton Homes Philip was a deputy director of finance at Unitary Councils for nine years. As well as being a CIPFA qualified accountant Philip has also passed the examinations of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and has a degree in Economics and Accounting and an MBA. Philip has extensive experience in the local authority and not-for-profit sector. He has held senior financial positions at Northamptonshire Police as well as Swindon and Medway Councils. Outside of work Philip is a Resources Committee member at Walsall Housing Group. Philip is responsible to the Board for all financial and IT matters including accounting, IT, budgeting and financial services.

James Francis, Group Finance Director, Circle James role at Circle Housing is to increase opportunities for independent and affordable living by improving the financial profile and value for money position. At home in Norwich James and his wife have two girls. James is Chair of the Governing Body of his two daughter s Primary School and Gymnastics Club. Vicky Johnson, Director of Data Services, HouseMark Speaker Biographies Vicky is responsible for the development and management of HouseMark's data services which includes the sectors leading benchmarking methodology. She is a qualified member of the CIH with a degree in Housing studies. Vicky joined HouseMark in 2004 from Wigan and Leigh Housing and has over 30 years experience of working in the housing sector Richard Medley, Director, Assets & Neighbourhoods, CIH Consultancy Richard is Director of Assets & Neighbourhoods for CIH consultancy. He leads CIH s work in providing strategic and operational solutions for organisations seeking to maximise the quality and value of their asset base and on developing and sustaining successful neighbourhoods for the benefit of tenants, other customers and wider communities. The focus of Richard s work is on developing approaches to asset management, repairs, regeneration and community investment that result in a higher quality, more relevant offer for customers, at the same time responding to the need to optimise value and provide better accountability in delivering locally based solutions that respond to the new operating environment. Richard is currently leading an innovative pilot project called Working together to redefine asset management. This involves working with a group of housing providers from across the UK to develop new insight into the key ingredients needed to optimise the use and value of organisations housing assets through the development a fresh, new operating model, with the lessons and learning or next best practice being shared across the housing sector.
