Down on the Allotments Allotment Holders have been once again working hard to tame their plots from weeds by using weed suppressant material to cover their plots and growing through small holes cuts into the material to grow their crops less time spent weeding great news. Making raised beds from recycled wood also seems very popular this season to grow their crops in, these new innovated ways seems to be very popular as allotment holders pass on to others their new ideas. Lots of growers have been taking advantage of the use of poly-tunnels expanding what can be grown with the help of these tunnels adding tomatoes, cucumbers, chilies, pepper, salad items, there is even a few allotment holders growing melons and figs as a more unusual exotic crop. We look forward to the allotment holders having some good produce on display at the Village Show this year. They have also introduce this year a scheme welcoming nature around the allotment site, introducing Bird & Bat box s along with bug houses and hedgehog houses, all made by the allotment holders themselves. A few brave & hard working allotment holders have undertaken training to enable them to introduced Bees to the allotment site, Hives have been safety placed on certain plots with the correct protection taken. They can now look forward to producing their own honey in the near future. 14 Page

On the social side of things, the allotments held yet more barbecues this season with the first on 5 th May and more planned throughout the year for summer and autumn If you would like to join in the fun and start growing your own fruit and vegetables please contact Martin Dolton (Parish Clerk) on 07399523961. 15 Page
