Refer to the Service Procedure starting on page 2 for details. NOTE: Do not replace the complete Display Unit Assembly for this issue, if it should occur. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Write down all radio station presets. Presets 1 2 3 4 5 6 AM FM-1 FM-2 2. Disconnect both battery cables (negative cable first). 3. Remove the Display Unit Assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation of Display Unit in the AV section of the appropriate Electronic Service Manual. 4. Place the assembly on a clean padded surface, like folded cloth fender covers. NOTE: The following procedure involves many small hardware pieces (see below). Use of a small tray with pockets or other tool to keep the pieces separate is recommended. Figure 1 2/11
5. Remove the two screws shown in Figure 2. Then disconnect the ribbon cable from its connector. Figure 2 6. Remove the five screws shown in Figure 3. Figure 3 3/11
7. Remove the six screws shown in Figure 4. Figure 4 8. Move faceplate LH harness from behind the audio frame bracket (Figure 5a) to in front of bracket (Figure 5b). Then do the same for the faceplate RH harness. Figure 5a Figure 5b 4/11
9. Place the faceplate down and away from the audio frame as shown in Figure 6. Figure 6 10. Lift the NAVI display unit slightly from the frame, and then tilt it away so the harness connector can be released from the frame. Then lift the NAVI display unit up and away from the frame. Figure 7 5/11
11. Raise the display unit in the motor assy. (if it is not already) by turning the screw heads shown in Figure 8. Figure 8 12. Remove the four course thread and two fine thread screws from the display back cover. Then remove the cover. Figure 9 6/11
13. Remove the four pan-head screws (two shown) holding the screen surround trim. Figure 10 14. Remove the two screen switch screws. Then, while holding the switch, lift and separate the frame from the switch and screen. Figure 11 7/11
15. Gently remove the two-piece plastic fasteners holding the ribbon cable to the case. Fastener detail Figure 12 16. The ribbon cable is held into the connector with a locking bar. The locking bar is a hand-press-fit into the connector, but is loosely retained when released by the two clips. Gently pry up on each end of the locking bar to release the ribbon cable. CAUTION: Do Not lift the locking bar more than 1mm. Figure 13 8/11
17. A new contact part of the switch will come with the new motor assy. The button part of the switch is to be reused. Remove the button part from the switch part as shown. Figure 14a 14b 14c 18. Remove the screw for ribbon ground. Figure 15 9/11
19. While supporting the NAVI LCD screen, remove the four screws (two shown) holding it to the display motor assy. Figure 16 20. Remove the four screws attaching the LCD power supply to the display motor assy. Figure 17 10/11
21. Replace the display motor assy. Assemble in reverse order of disassembly. NOTE: If the two-piece plastic fastners holding the ribbon cable to the case are damaged, apply felt tape as shown to secure the cable. 22. Re-connect the vehicle battery. 23. Re-program the radio presets. 11/11
