& Research Project The idea of this project is to show that you can work well outside lessons and make several seperate pieces of work. These need to be neatly presented and handed in on time. This project has: Two practical assignments. - One pencil drawing - One ink drawing A research assignment where you have to search for two good examples of artworks on the internet A written assignment where you have to analyse and compare the artworks you chose An internet research assignment where you have to find when exactly six artworks were made and then put them in the correct order. You will be given quite a long period of time to make the assignments. It is up to you how you organise your time. All work has to be done outside normal lessons. All work has to be put into a folder at the end project and handed in on time. If you hand the whole project in two weeks early you will be given an extra grade. If you hand it in one week early you will be given an extra 0.5. 1 tto

Drawing Assignment 1 Lay a flower (with a stem and leaves) or a small branch with leaves on a sheet of white paper. Use an A4 sheet of drawing paper (try not to use printer paper as it is too thin and smooth) and a HB or 2B pencil Make the most beautiful drawing you can flower or the branch. Think about the following points: Fill the whole A4 sheet like the two drawings above Use line, but also shading (light and dark)...do not forget about the shadow on the table! Make sure some parts of your drawing are very dark and others very light, like in the drawings shown here. Do not forget to sharpen your pencil before you start!!

Drawing Assignment 2 Using your ink pen from your drawing box copy the outline plant form from your first drawing. Make sure you fill as much A4 sheet of paper as you can. Do this as carefully and as neatly as you can. When the ink is dry use your brush to colour the inside plant form with black ink (like in the two pictures on the left). Clean your brush and your pen well when you have finished.

Assignment 3 Flower painting research assignment For this short research assignment you must find two paintings of flowers. Both paintings must come from the collection of a well known museum. What exactly you can seen in the painting and how it has been painted is up to you, just as long as the main subject painting is the flower or flowers. To choose your two paintings use to the following link: http://www.petersansom.nl/museumlinks.html On this page you will find a selection of links that will take you to the collections of some greatest museums world. Each button will take youto the search engine site and will give you the chance to search the collection museum. Some museums are for older art, some more modern. Which museum you choose for is up to you. Try searching using words like flowers, flower painting, flower still life. The written part of this assignment is probably easiest if you try and choose two paintings that are quite different from each other. Copy and paste the two paintings into a Word document. Then, for each painting you must find all following information: - the name artist who made the artwork - the title painting - the year in which it was made - the name museum that owns the painting - the full website address where you have found the painting If you cannot find all five points above then you have to choose another painting.

Assignment 4 Describing and comparing Make a table like the one below and fill it with a list of words of things and details that you can see in each painting. Things that I can see in... Painting One Painting Two Now make a second table. This time you must will it with words that are about the quality painting and the way that it has been painted. Try and be as descriptive as you can...try to use words that are more interesting than "good" and "nice", these are very general sorts of words, use a dictionary if you need to. With the help words that you have written down you must write a short text where you compare the two A comparison is where you write about things that are similar or different. Painting One Painting Two For example if you were writing a comparison of two cars you could write something like: The first car can drive faster than the second one. The second car is much more streamlined than the first one. You could also write something like: The number of seats in the two cars is the same, or the overall size two cars are very similar, when things are the same or the differences are not very big. Now you try writing a comparison of your two Don't forget to use the words that you put in your tables to help you think about the similarities and differences to write about. Your text should have at least eight sentences.

Assignment 5 Internet research assignment Below is a list of six paintings and the name artist who painted them. The list in a random order. Your task is to: 1. find a picture of each painting 2. discover exactly in which year the artwork was made 3. arrange the pictures and the dates in your Word document on one page with the oldest one at the top page and the most recent one at the bottom The six paintings that you have to find and date are: Sunflowers by Vincent van Gogh Do It Yourself Flowers by Andy Warhol Petunia No. 2 by Georgia O'keeffe White Porcelain by David Hockney Petite Fleurs by Pablo Picasso Vase of Flowers by Juan Fernández
