Studio Art at the Morris Museum - Summer 2015 WEEK 1 Eco Art with Kelly Bogucz. Ages 7-10 Monday thru Friday, July 6 10, 9:30am 12:30pm Explore a variety of textures found in rocks, trees, grass and other natural objects through a variety of art mediums you ll use for 2D and 3D projects. Perhaps we ll construct and paint a birdhouse and a flower pot while learning the benefits of helping the natural environment. Bring a sketchbook! $180 Member, $200 non-member, $10 supply fee to instructor. Drawing Fundamentals with Kelly Bogucz. Ages 5-9 Monday thru Friday, July 6 10, 1:00 4:00pm Learn the foundation of visual arts line, shape, color, and value, using a variety of mediums such as colored pencil, water color, acrylics, and textured paper. Work your way around the museum, investigating textiles, animals, dinosaur bones, paintings, and other treasures! Take home your personal interpretation of what you saw at the museum each day. WEEK 2 A Week with Picasso with Nina Nemeth. Ages 6-9 Monday thru Friday, July 13 17, 9:30am 12:30pm View a sampling of works by Pablo Picasso, one of the world s Master Artists. Learn about his life and times, while you explore his unique and revolutionary art. You will use watercolor, acrylic, pastel, collage and mixed media to create your own masterpieces in the styles of this master. $180 Member, $200 non-member, $8 supply fee to instructor. A Colorful Mosaic Project with Eleanor Parr-DiLeo. Ages 5-12+ Monday thru Thursday, July 13 16, 1:00 4:00pm Create your very own outdoor stepping stone and a framed wall art piece using the piqueassiette style of mosaic. Pique-assiette incorporates pieces of broken ceramics plates, dishes, cups, tiles and other found objects into the design. Learn how to add 3- dimensional elements and fill them out in a way that combines these two genres. WEEK 3 A Week with Van Gogh with Nina Nemeth. Ages 6-9 Monday thru Friday, July 19 24, 9:30am 12:30pm View a sampling of works by Vincent Van Gogh, one of the world s Master Artists. Learn about his life and times, while you explore his impassioned and unique works of art. You will use watercolor, acrylic, pastel, collage and mixed media to create our own masterpieces in the styles of this master. $180 Member, $200 non-member, $8 supply fee to instructor. Graffiti: Off the Wall with Kelly Bogucz. Ages 9-14 Monday thru Friday, July 19 24, 9:30am 12:30pm Have fun with a variety of off-the-wall mediums and projects. Learn about the history of graffiti art as practiced around the world, and explore your own ideas using several of these art forms. Have fun creating unique letter art in scratchboard, on a T-shirt, and on the cover of a sketchbook. Elements of Design with Nina Nemeth. Ages 7-10 Monday thru Friday, July 19 24, 1:00 4:00pm Learn about the elements of design. Line, form, color, space, texture and value are all parts of great works of art. The class will look at artists such as Picasso, Monet, Klimt and others to see how they used these elements in their works of art. Students will then work on their own compositions using these elements in various mediums. Bring a sketchbook! $180 Member, $200 non-member, $5 supply fee. Drawing on Animation with Kelly Bogucz. Ages 9-14 Monday thru Friday, July 19 24, 1:00 4:00pm Learn about the history of your favorite animated stories and characters. Explore the origins of animated movies and TV shows. Try your hand at the old styles of animated characters and move along the time-line to contemporary ones. Develop colorful backdrops for your story to create a cartoon atmosphere. Make your very own storyboard and illustrated storybook. Sample a computer application that designers use today to make your own virtual character (a free open-source software that you can try out on Kelly s computer in class, and download on your home computer). $180 Member, $200 non-member, $10 supply fee.

WEEK 4 Let s Draw Animals! with Kelly Bogucz. Ages 5-9 Monday thru Friday, July 27 31, 9:30am 12:30pm Learn to create birds and various other animals with an array of textures and mediums. The animals displayed in the museum will be your inspiration as you learn how to bring these creatures to life with line, value, and texture. Bring a sketchbook! $180 Member, $200 non-member, $5 supply fee to instructor Water Color Painting with Francesca Pelaggi. Ages 12-15 Monday thru Friday, July 27 31, 9:30am 12:30pm Explore basic techniques of the medium, such as controlled wet-into-wet painting, color theory, value, and the elements that make a good watercolor painting. Learn about perspective of various shapes and color mixing from the primary colors, while working on still life compositions. If weather permits, we will work on a landscape while painting out-ofdoors. $180 Member, $200 non-member, $10 supply fee to instructor Drawing: Tech and Architecture with Kelly Bogucz. Ages 6-10 Monday thru Friday, July 27 31, 1:00 4:00pm Learn the artistic element of perspective through history s great architecture and fascinating forms of transportation. Explore how these man-made giants were planned and constructed. Look at different types of industrial art, and practice your drawing skills on both symmetrical- and non-symmetrical pieces. Another Colorful Mosaic Project with Eleanor Parr-DiLeo. Ages 5-12+ Monday thru Thursday, July 27 30, 1:00 4:00pm Create a butterfly dish for the garden and a mosaic sun catcher. Learn how to draw a pattern and produce a mosaic by arranging small colored pieces of hard materials, such as stained glass and gems. Ages 12+ Tuesday thru Friday, July 28 31, 10:00am 12:00pm Learn the fundamentals of drawing a variety of subject matter, focusing on the formal elements of line, shape, tone, form, space, and depth. We will cover drawing still-lifes, animals, perspective and nature. We will draw from life whenever possible to train your eye to see nuances and detail. Learn how to render the look of 3 dimensionality through value, using high-lights, mid-tones and shadow. WEEK 5 3D Art with Francesca Pelaggi. Ages 6-10 Monday thru Friday, August 3 7, 9:30am 12:30pm Use your hands and a variety of materials, including air-dry clay, to produce basic shapes from which more complex objects can be created. Explore paper fibers, foam core, cardboard, Styrofoam, wire, or a variety of many other materials that lend themselves to 3D creation! Through construction of 3D projects, learn about balance, symmetry and asymmetry, pattern, color, and more, while letting your imagination take off! $180 Member, $200 non-member, $10 supply fee to instructor. Learn about the additive and subtractive techniques used with charcoal to create form and depth. Then try out other drawing mediums in comparison: some techniques may be similar to each other, other techniques are unique to the medium. Ages 12+ Tuesday thru Friday, August 4 7, 9:30am 12:00pm Learn the basics of oil painting from the mixing of colors and composition to blending and creating form using high-lights, mid-tones and shadows. You will learn various techniques, including glazing, scumbling and dry-brush. Also covered: the care and maintenance of equipment, the use of mediums, the temperatures and drying times of various colors, and more. Work from life to help train your eye to see subtle details and colors. Observe works of the Masters for inspiration and instruction. WEEK 6 Art Around the World with Kelly Bogucz. Ages 6-11 Monday thru Friday, August 10 14, 9:30am 12:30pm Travel the world through art! Using a variety of mediums pencil, water color, acrylics, pastels, collage, and more explore and recreate the arts of the world in your own unique style. We will look at African masks from one of the museum s collections, Australian bark paintings, the calligraphy and paintings of Chinese scrolls, the intricate beauty of Arabic lettering, and the meditative Tibetan Mandala. Learn the history and culture that surround these art forms as we recreate them! Bring a sketchbook! $180 Member, $200 non-member, $8 supply fee to instructor Fantasy Figures with Kelly Bogucz. Ages 10-14 Monday thru Friday, August 10 14, 1:00 4:00pm Hone your skills in the formal elements of art line, shape, value, color, composition while exploring and creating fire-breathing dragons, flying gryphons, unknown creatures of the depths maybe even capture the likeness of the elusive chupacabra! Use pencil, charcoal, watercolor, and acrylic paints to draw and embellish creatures of the imagination. Observe what s real; create something fantastic! Ages 12+ Tuesday thru Friday, August 11 14, 10:00am 12:00pm Learn to draw a face from a variety of angles and achieve a good likeness of the individual. Proportions will be demonstrated, as well as the foreshortening that occurs when the face is seen at an angle. An assortment of faces will be drawn which will include different ages, gender and ethnic type. There will be several demonstrations and a lot of hands-on instruction. Self-portraits will be explored. Examples of the Masters will be shown and discussed. $100 Member, $110 non-member, short supply list
