WOF= Width of Fabric LOF = Length of Fabric Fabric A (2994M-99 Poinsettia Black), cut: (1) 9 ½ square. Fabric B (Carbon-23 Peppered Cotton Carbon), cut: (1) 5 x WOF strip, sub-cut (4) 5 x 9 ½ strips. (1) 5 x WOF strip, sub-cut (8) 5 squares. (4) 2 ½ x WOF strips for the binding. Fabric C (2997-11 Snowflake Lt. Gray), cut: (1) 5 x WOF strip, sub-cut (4) 5 x 9 ½ strips. (1) 5 x WOF strip, sub-cut (8) 5 squares. Fabric D (2998-11 Mini Stripe Lt. Gray), cut: (1) 3 ½ x WOF strip, sub-cut (8) 3 ½ squares. STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 3 of 6 Sewing Sew using a ¼ seam allowance with right sides together (RST) unless otherwise indicated. Always press towards the darker fabric while assembling, unless otherwise noted by the arrows. Block Assembly 1. Sew (1) 3 ½ Fabric G square, (1) 3 ½ x 6 ½ Fabric E strip, (1) 3 ½ Fabric E square, (1) 3 ½ x 6 ½ Fabric F strip, (1) 3 ½ Fabric F square and (2) 3 ½ Fabric D squares together to make (1) corner block (Fig. 1). Repeat to make (4) corner blocks total, paying attention to the positioning of the various strips and squares in each block. make 2 make 2 Fig. 1 2. Place (1) 5 Fabric C square on the left side of (1) 5 x 9 ½ Fabric B strip, right sides together (Fig. 2). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner (Fig. 2). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 3). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼ seam allowance. Fig. 2 Fig. 3 3. Place another 5 Fabric C square on the right side of the 5 x 9 ½ Fabric B strip, right sides together (Fig. 4). Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner (Fig. 4). Flip open the triangle formed and press (Fig. 5). Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼ seam allowance to make (1) CBC unit. make 4 Fig. 4 Fig. 5 4. Repeat Steps 2-3 to make (4) CBC units total. 5. Repeat Steps 2-3 using (4) 5 x 9 ½ Fabric C strips and (8) 5 Fabric B squares to make (4) BCB units (Fig. 6). 6. Sew (1) CBC unit and (1) BCB unit together to make (1) middle block (Fig. 7). STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 4 of 6 7. Sew (2) 3 ½ x 6 ½ Fabric G strips, (2) 3 ½ x 6 ½ Fabric F strips and (1) 3 ½ Fabric G square to make (1) inner side border (Fig. 8). Repeat to make a second inner side border. Fig. 8 8. Sew (2) 3 ½ x 9 ½ Fabric G strips, (2) 3 ½ x 6 ½ Fabric F strips and (1) 3 ½ Fabric G square together to make (1) inner top border (Fig. 9). Repeat to make the inner bottom border. Fig. 9 9. Sew (2) 3 ½ x 14 Fabric H strips and (1) 3 ½ x 6 ½ Fabric E strip together to make (1) outer side border (Fig. 10). Repeat to make a second outer side border. Fig. 10 10. Sew (2) 3 ½ x 17 Fabric H strips and (1) 3 ½ x 6 ½ Fabric E square together to make (1) outer top/ bottom border (Fig. 11). Repeat to make a second outer top/bottom border. Fig. 11 Quilt Top Assembly 11. Sew the (1) middle block to each side of (1) 9 ½ Fabric A square. Sew (1) corner block to each side of (1) middle block. Repeat to make a second strip. Sew the strips to the top and to the bottom of the Fabric A square to make the quilt top (Fig. 12). Fig. 12

STUDIO e PROJECTS Page 6 of 6 Layering, Quilting and Finishing 14. Press the quilt top and 44 x 44 backing well. Layer backing (wrong side up), batting, pressed quilt top (right side up) and baste. Quilt as desired and trim excess batting and backing when quilting is complete. Binding 15. Cut the ends of the (4) Fabric B binding strips at a 45-degree angle and sew end to end to make (1) continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise and press wrong sides together. 16. Sew the binding to the front of the quilt, raw edges together. Turn the folded edge to the back, and hand stitch in place. 2014 Studio e Fabrics
