24854 J - Black Ditsy 2 strips x WOF for E strip sets. 2 strips x WOF for B strip sets; recut 1 strip into (1) x 21" half-strip. 5 strips x WOF; recut into (24) x 5" I rectangles and (24) x 3½" K rectangles. 10 strips 1½" x WOF for borders. 5. Select the 3½" cream large floral and black ditsy E strips. Sew a cream strip lengthwise together with a black strip to make a 5" x WOF strip set. Press seam toward the black strip. Repeat to make a second strip set. Crosscut the strip sets into (24) 3½" E segments. 3½" 3½" 24852 E - Cream Flower Vine (Backing Only) 2 pieces 71" x WOF for backing. Strip Segments & Units Notes: Use a ¼" seam allowance for all stitching. Label each segment and unit with the letter assigned in the piecing step. 1. Select the cream ditsy and red flower/scroll A strips and half-strips. Sew the red WOF strip lengthwise between the cream WOF strips to make a 5" x WOF strip set. Press seams toward the red strip. Repeat with half-strips to make a 5" x 21" strip set. Crosscut the strip sets into (24) A segments. E Segments - Cut 24 F Segments - Cut 24 6. Repeat step 5 with tan geometric and red flower/ scroll F strips to cut (24) 3½" F segments. 7. Select the and 6½" black flower vine and red geometric G strips. Sew the 6½" black strip lengthwise between the red strips and add the black strips to the long sides to complete the 12½" x 21" strip set. Press seams toward the black strips. Crosscut the strip set into (8) 1½" G segments. 1½" 1½" A Segments - Cut 24 B Segments - Cut 24 2. Repeat step 1 with cream ditsy and black ditsy B strips and half-strips to cut (24) B segments. 3. Select the 1½" tan geometric and black flower/scroll C strips. Sew the black strip lengthwise between the tan strips to make a 3½" x WOF strip set. Press seams toward the black strip. Crosscut the strip set into (24) 1½" C segments. 1½" 1½" C Segments - Cut 24 D Segments - Cut 12 4. Repeat step 3 with tan geometric and black flower/ scroll D strips to cut (12) 1½" D segments, reversing placement of the tan and black strips in the strip set. G Segments Cut 8 H Segments Cut 9 8. Repeat step 7 with and 6½" black flower vine and red flower/scroll H strips to cut (9) 1½" H segments. 9. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each cream ditsy square. 10. Place a marked cream square right sides together on 1 end of a black ditsy I rectangle. Sew on the marked line. Trim seam allowance ¼" out from the stitched line. Press toward the cream triangle to complete 1 I unit. Repeat to make 24 I units. Repeat with remaining marked squares and red flower/scroll J rectangles to make 24 J units. 11. Measure and mark from the top left corner on the wrong side of each x 3½" cream ditsy rectangle. Draw a line from the mark to the lower left corner on each rectangle. Mark 48 4. Sew an E segment to opposite sides of a center unit to complete the 3½" x 12½" center row. Press seams toward the E segments. Stitch an F segment between an I corner unit and a J corner unit to make the 5" x 12½" top row. Press seams toward the F segment. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew the center row between the top and bottom rows to complete (1) 12½" x 12½" Weave block. Press seams toward the center row. Repeat to make 12 Weave blocks. 12. Place the marked end of a cream rectangle right sides together on the end of a black ditsy K rectangle. Sew on the marked line. Trim seam allowance ¼" out from the stitched line. Press toward the cream piece to complete (1) x 5" K unit. Repeat to make 24 K units. Repeat with remaining marked rectangles and red flower/scroll L rectangles to make 24 L units. Weave Block - Make 12 Weave Blocks K Unit - Make 24 L Unit - Make 24 1. Sew an I unit between an A segment and an L unit to make a 5" x 5" I corner unit. Press seams toward the I unit. Repeat to make 24 I corner units. I Corner Unit - Make 24 J Corner Unit - Make 24 2. Repeat step 1 with J and K units and B segments to make 24 J corner units. 3. Stitch a D segment between 2 C segments to make a 3½" x 3½" center unit. Press seams toward the C segments. Repeat to make 12 center units. Center Unit - Make 12 Quilt Assembly Refer to the exploded quilt diagram as needed throughout the following steps. 1. Sew 3 Weave blocks alternately together with 2 G segments to make a 12½" x 38½" block row. Press seams toward the G segments. Repeat to make 4 block rows. 2. Stitch 3 H segments alternately together with (2) 1½" black flower vine sashing squares to make a 1½" x 38½" sashing row. Press seams toward the H segments. Repeat to make 3 sashing rows. 3. Join the block rows and sashing rows to complete the 38½" x 51½" quilt center. Press seams toward the sashing rows. 4. Sew the 1½" x WOF black ditsy strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to 1 side. Cut into (2) 51½" strips, (2) 40½" strips, (2) 61½" strips and (2) 50½" strips. Stitch the 51½" strips to the long sides of the quilt center and the 40½" strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips. 5. Center and stitch the 4½" x 66" paisley stripe strips to the long sides of the quilt center, beginning and ending stitching ¼" from the corners of the quilt center. Repeat with the 4½" x 53" strips on the top and bottom. Miter corners using your favorite method, checking to be sure that the stripe matches and all corners lie flat. Trim mitered corner seams to ¼" and press open. Press border seams toward the stripe strips. 6. Stitch the 61½" black ditsy strips from step 4 to the long sides of the quilt center and the 50½" strips to the top and bottom to complete the quilt top. Press seams toward the strips. 7. Remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long edges with a ½" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the edges to make a 58" x 71" backing piece. 8. Layer the top with the backing and a 58" x 71" batting piece. Quilt as desired. Trim edges even with the top. 9. Prepare red geometric binding and bind edges using your favorite method to complete the quilt.
