Strips are cut across the width of fabric unless otherwise stated. All seams are sewn with a 1/4" seam unless otherwise stated. Prepare templates for and triangles. NOTE: ou must cut the triangles using a single layer of fabric, right sides up. If you cut using folded fabric (wrong sides facing) you will cut mirror image triangles, with only one being usable for that particular block tilt. From Fabric A (26822 MUL1): 1. Cut nine 8" squares with an animal centered in each. From Fabric B (26823 MUL1): 1. Cut two 7 1/2" strips. Unfold and press strips flat. From one strip, cut four 4 1/2" squares for borders. From remainder, use Template to cut twenty triangles. From Fabric C (26825 BLU1): 1. Cut one 7 1/2" strip. Unfold and press flat. Use Template to cut sixteen triangles. 2. Cut two 4 1/2" strips. Sub cut four 4 1/2" x 10 1/2" rectangles for outer border. From Fabric D (26825 PIN1): 1. Cut one 12 1/2" strip. Sub cut eight 4 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangles for outer border. From Fabric E (26824 BLU1): 1. Cut three 2 1/2" strips. Sub cut four 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" rectangles and four 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" rectangles for inner border. 2. Cut five 2 1/4" strips for binding. From Fabric F (26824 ORA1): 1. Cut two 2 1/2" strips. Sub cut four 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" rectangles for inner borders. Block Piecing Instructions: NOTE: Templates and are cut larger than needed. Blocks are trimmed to size after piecing. 1. Arrange four triangles with one A square (Figure 1). Sew a triangle to two opposite sides of the square (Figure 2). Press seams toward the triangles. Stitch triangles to the remaining sides of the square (Figure 3). Press seams toward the triangles. Trim to 10 1/2" square to complete one block, leaving 1/4" beyond the corners of the square. Repeat to make a total of five blocks. Figure 1 Figure 2 Figure 3 Make 5 blocks. 2. Repeat step 1 using triangles and the remaining A squares to make four blocks (Figures 4, 5 and 6). A A Figure 4 Figure 5 Figure 6 Make 4 blocks. Quilt Assembly: Refer to cover and quilt diagram. 1. Arrange the blocks in three rows with three blocks in each, alternating the and blocks. Sew blocks into rows. Press seams toward the blocks. Join the rows to complete the 30 1/2" x 30 1/2" quilt center. Press seams away from the center row. 2. Referring to the Quilt Diagram, sew an F 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" rectangle short ends together between two E 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" rectangles to make the 2 1/2" x 30 1/2" top border strip. Press seams toward the F rectangle. Repeat to make the bottom border strip. Stitch the strips to the top and bottom of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips.
3. Sew a 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" F rectangle short ends together between two 2 1/2" x 12 1/2" E rectangles to make a 2 1/2" x 34 1/2" side border strip. Press seams toward the F rectangle. Repeat. Stitch the strips to the sides of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips. 4. Sew a 4 1/2" x 10 1/2" C rectangle between two 4 1/2" x 12 1/2" D rectangles to make a 4 1/2" x 34 1/2" border strip. Press seams toward the D rectangles. Repeat to make a total of four strips. Stitch a strip to the sides of the quilt center. Press seams toward the strips. Sew a 4 1/2" B square to each end of the two remaining strips. Press seams toward the strips. Stitch the strips to the top and bottom of the quilt center to complete the top. Press seams toward the strips. Finishing: 1. Prepare the backing with a vertical seam to measure 50" x 50". Press seam open. 2. Layer backing, batting and quilt top. Baste layers together. 3. Quilt as desired. 4. Trim layers even with top. 5. Join five 2 1/4" E binding strips with diagonal seams. Press seams open. Press strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together to make double-fold binding. Sew binding to quilt using your favorite method. 6. Make a label and sew to back of the quilt.
