Framed Panel Blocks & Framed Dove Blocks Note: Use a ¼" seam allowance for all stitching. 1. Center and sew a black filigree triangle to each side of a panel square. Press seams toward the triangles. Trim the corners of the panel square even with the edges of the triangles to complete a 10¾" x 10¾" block center. Repeat to make 6 block centers. Ornament X Blocks 1. Sew a 2¼" x WOF black filigree strip lengthwise between (2) 1¼" x WOF cream metallic strips and then add a 1" x WOF black filigree strip to each long side to make a 4¾" x WOF strip set. Press seams toward the black strips. Repeat to make 5 strip sets. Crosscut the strip sets into (34) 5¾" segments. 5¾" 4¾" Block Center - Make 6 2. Fold each 1" x 10¾" bronze and black filigree strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together to make 24 each bronze and black folded strips. 3. Place a bronze folded strip on opposite sides of each block center with raw edges aligned and folds toward the center. Pin in place. Repeat on the remaining sides of the block center. Machine-baste ⅛" from the edge all around and remove pins to complete (6) 10¾" x 10¾" Framed Panel blocks. Note: The loose folded edges of the strips will form a decorative flange around each block when stitched into the quilt. 2. Fold a segment in half lengthwise and press at 1 end to crease center of black center strip. Layer on top of 3 segments, aligning all edges. Measure and mark 2⅜" from each corner on the creased end. Trim from pressed center mark to each 2⅜" mark to make 4 pointed strips. Repeat to make 34 pointed strips. 2⅜" 2⅜" Pointed Strip Make 34 3. Stitch a pointed strip to opposite sides of each 4¾" black ornaments square to make 6 diagonal center rows. Press seams toward the squares. Framed Panel Block Make 6 4. Repeat step 3 with the black folded strips and 10¾" dove squares to complete 6 Framed Dove blocks. Framed Dove Block - Make 6 Digital Center Row - Make 6 4. Sew a bronze filigree triangle to opposite sides of each remaining pointed strip to make 22 corner units, matching the square corner of the triangles with the square end of the pointed strips. 5. Center and stitch a corner unit to opposite long sides of each diagonal center row to complete (6) 10¾" x 10¾" Ornament X blocks. Press seams toward the center row. 4. Repeat step 3 with 2⅝"-wide x 4¾"-tall black ornaments rectangles to make 3 each left and right setting triangles. Top Make 2 of each Bottom Ornament X Block - Make 6 Setting & Corner Triangles 1. Sew a 1¼" x WOF cream metallic strip lengthwise between a 1" x WOF black filigree strip and a 1⅜" x WOF black filigree strip to make a 2⅝" x WOF strip set. Press seams toward the black strips. Repeat to make 4 strip sets. Crosscut the strip sets into (28) 6" segments. Left Make 3 of each Right 2⅝" 6" 5. Sew an angled strip to 1 short side of 4 bronze triangles. Press seams toward the angled strips. 2. Layer 2 segments wrong sides together on your cutting mat, aligning all edges. Layer on another pair of segments. Measure and mark 2⅝" from the top right corner on the narrow black strip edge. Trim from the mark to the bottom right corner to make 2 each angled strips and reversed angled strips. Repeat to make 14 each angled and reversed angled strips. 2⅝" 6. Stitch a reversed angled strip to 1 side of each 2⅝" black ornaments square, keeping ornaments upright in each pieced strip as shown. Press seams toward the reversed angled strips. 7. Join the pieced sections to complete 4 corner triangles. Press seams away from the bronze triangle sections. Angled Strip Reversed Angled Strip Make 14 of each 3. Stitch an angled strip and reversed angled strip to opposite short ends of each 2⅝"-tall x 4¾"-wide black ornaments rectangle, paying careful attention to the positioning of the print in the rectangles. Press seams toward the rectangles. Add a corner unit to each pieced strip to make 2 each top and bottom setting triangles. Press seams toward the pieced strips. Quilt Assembly Refer to the exploded quilt center diagram and the cover quilt as needed throughout the following steps. 1. Arrange and join the Framed Panel, Framed Dove and Ornament X blocks with the setting triangles and 2 corner triangles to make 6 diagonal rows, being careful to keep the ornament print in the setting triangles upright in the rows. Press all seams away from the framed blocks, leaving the folded strips flat on top of the blocks. 2. Join the rows and add the 2 remaining corner triangles to the top right and bottom left block edges to complete the 44" x 58½" quilt center. Press seams open, leaving the folded strips flat on top of the framed blocks. 4. Repeat step 3 with the 4½" x WOF black poinsettias strips to complete the quilt top, cutting 2 each 60½" and 54" strips. 5. Remove the selvage edges from the backing pieces. Join the pieces on the long edges with a ½" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the edges to make a 61" x 76" backing piece. 6. Layer the top with the backing and a 61" x 76" batting piece. Quilt as desired. Trim edges even with the top. 7. Prepare bronze filigree binding and bind edges using your favorite method to complete the quilt. 3. Sew the 1½" x WOF cream metallic strips short ends together to make a long strip. Press seams to one side. Cut into (2) 58½" strips and (2) 46" strips. Stitch the longer strips to the long sides of the quilt center and the shorter strips to the top and bottom. Press seams toward the strips.
