Meeting minutes June 10th, 2016 About 40 club members met at Beachview Park in Clarkston for our annual picnic. Fried chicken tasted good with an assortment of salads and desserts brought by club members. Barry McMinn brought some donated rocks that club members sorted through & took home. We had a short informal meeting. Bruce Borgelt discussed the progress of a club house. He is working on it. Randy Squires has a lead for a double wide. Mary Lou Northrup read a letter from Larry and Virginia Kribs of Bend, Oregon advertising rock and equipment for sale. Jerry Northrup said we were trying to reorganize a trip to the crystal claim. Anyone interested in going is welcome. Picnic was fun and an enjoyable evening. Meeting adjourned FIELD TRIP REPORT June 18---Mary Lou & Jerry Northrup met Kyle Pringle and Harlan Stark in Clarkia for a trip to the garnet crystal claim. We drove to the garnet claim area where Northrups already were camped in their trailer. After sandwiches we went to the garnet claim and dug for about three hours. Found some garnets. Then Kyle, Harlan & Jerry went to the crystal claim while Mary Lou cooked supper for all. Again crystals were found. Harlan headed for home after digging. The next morning the three of us headed back to a morning of digging for garnets. Nate Reade and Lynda Grebe joined us about noon. We then traveled down to the lower crystal dig for a couple of hours. After an evening campfire and a day outside, bed was welcome. Everyone except Mary Lou and Jerry headed home by Monday morning. A good time was had by all, with some crystals and garnets found by everyone. The following photo shows hunks of an iron meteorite that were used as tools. The center piece was a hammer - note the flat face at the red arrow.
