ViaSat Cmmunicatins Equipment: All custmer rders require ne IDU and ne ODU package. This equipment is prvided t the custmer thrugh the Service Order prcess. Cmmunicatins Equipment: This equipment includes cabling and cnnectrs which is prvided by the Installer. Every installatin will include at least: COAX Cable Cmpressin Cnnectrs High-frequency Grunding Blcks Grund Wire per NEC, State and Lcal Cdes Nte: Only cable mdels n the ViaSat Apprved Cable List are acceptable and ensure the best custmer experience. Nn-standard Munting Equipment: Only munting equipment listed in the Munt Accessries Technical Bulletin will be used fr ViaSat Service installatins. Usually the custmer is billed fr the cst f any nn-standard munt used during the installatin. Safety: IDU General Safety Apprach Pre-Installatin Preparatin Jb Aid Never d anything that will harm yu r the custmer Fllw all OSHA regulatins Wrking with the Satellite Mdem There are n field-replaceable parts inside the mdem. The Transmit (TX) and Receive (RX) prts n the back f a pwered mdem carry 30Vdc, 1.78A, and 24Vdc, 150mA, respectively. Avid inserting metal bjects int either Transmit r Receive prts f a pwered mdem. Never pen the mdem case; sme parts have residual electricity that can be harmful. D nt install the mdem near water r in very mist cnditins. Allw fr prper ventilatin arund the mdem. Allw at least 1 inch n all sides fr cnvectin ventilatin Allw at least 3 ½ inches at the back fr cabling D nt place mdem n a radiatr r heat register. Safety: ODU General Safety Apprach Never d anything that will harm yu r the custmer Fllw all OSHA regulatins Wrking with the Satellite Antenna Never pen the TRIA case; there are parts that have residual electricity that can be harmful. TRIA cmpnents are cmpressin sealed; breaking the seals damages the TRIA. There are n field-replaceable parts in the TRIA. All lcatins in frnt, beside and behind the ViaSat antenna emits radi frequency energy at levels belw 1 milliwatt per square centimeter (1mW/cm), which is belw the FCC regulated pwer density fr ptential health harm. While the antenna is transmitting data, avid the area between the Feedhrn and the Sub-reflectr n the 2009 ODU, and the area frm the frnt f the Feedhrn t the center f the Antenna n the VS1100 ODU. During transmissin, the radi frequency energy in this area exceeds the FCC regulated pwer density fr ptential health harm. The area f the antenna shwn in range belw is called the Antenna Trapezid. This area can have peaks f time when the radi frequency energy is abve the 1mW/cm limit and expsure shuld be limited. 2006-2014 ViaSat, Inc. Page 5 f 8
Safety: Persnal Pre-Installatin Preparatin Jb Aid Imprtant: This des nt replace any OSHA regulatins; please refer t the OSHA Web site fr cmplete infrmatin. Wear prtective eyewear, such as gggles, when using pwer tls. Wear prtective headwear, such as a hardhat, any time yu are wrking with tls r structures ver yur head. D nt wear lse clthing r jewelry when using pwer tls. Wear prper shes that prvide bth supprt and ft prtectin. Never remve yur shes in a custmer s hme. Walking in stcking feet can cause slips and falls. Safety: Wrking Arund Electricity Imprtant: This des nt replace any OSHA regulatins; please refer t the OSHA Web site fr cmplete infrmatin. Watch ut fr verhead pwer lines. Stay a minimum f 20 feet away frm all pwer lines. If any part f the antenna r mast assembly tuches a pwer line, call the lcal pwer cmpany. D nt attempt t remve the antenna r mast assembly frm a pwer line by yurself. Prperly grund the antenna assembly per the Natinal Electric Cde (NEC), State and Lcal cdes. An imprperly grunded antenna can cause damage t the satellite equipment and t peple wh may be in cntact with that equipment. Be aware f the danger f electrcutin when yu use a metal ladder. Fr persnal safety, d nt use metal ladders. Safety: Wrk Envirnment Imprtant: This des nt replace any OSHA regulatins; please refer t the OSHA Web site fr cmplete infrmatin. D nt assemble, mve, r install an antenna r mast assembly n a windy day. The elliptical dish surface, even in slight winds, creates strng frces. Fr example, a ViaSat antenna facing a wind f 20 mph can underg frces f 60 lbs. Be prepared t handle thse frces at unexpected mments, even n calm days. An imprperly installed antenna is susceptible t wind damage and can cause bdily harm. If the installatin is n a very steep rf, r a nnstandard height, it is best t use a safety harness and lanyard. 2006-2014 ViaSat, Inc. Page 6 f 8
Pre-Installatin Preparatin Jb Aid Any ViaSat antenna that will be lcated at a lcatin n the custmer structure 21 feet r higher abve the grund and/r nt accessible frm a 25-ft ladder is nn-standard installatin. Such installatins are at the Installers discretin and may require additinal safety equipment and/r persnnel. Ladder safety: Use the ne-t-fur (1:4) rati when using a ladder. T d this, place the ladder s its base is ne ft away frm what it leans against fr every fur feet in height t the pint where the ladder rests. Prvide slid fting n sft grund t prevent the ladder frm sinking. Place the ladder's feet n a substantial and level base, nt n mvable bjects. Extend the ladder's side rails at least three feet abve the tp landing. Take precautins when wrking n a ladder s as nt t slip. Lck a leg arund a rung if yu need t wrk with bth hands. D nt verreach. Keep yur belt buckle between the rails. Keep bth feet n the ladder. D nt put ne ft n the ladder and the ther n an adjacent surface r bject. Step dwn frm ladders, d nt jump.
