Product Description Product Applications 3M Light Pipe Series LPS100, LPS150 and LPS250 are innovative, modular lighting systems that are designed to distribute light evenly along their entire length. The light pipes are a series of cylindrical, interconnected light distribution modules ranging in length from 4 to 20 meters for LPS250 series and from 8 to 64 feet for LPS100 series and LPS150 series. These modules, called light pipes, are lined with a 3M Optical Lighting Film 2301with unique properties that produce a uniform illumination from a single light source. An extractor strip of 3M Light Enhancement Film 3635-100 diffuses light reflection inside the pipe so that it is uniformly distributed along the entire length of the system. The light pipe diameters for each series are as follows: - LPS100-4 inches (102 mm) - LPS150-6 inches (152 mm) - LPS250-10 inches (254 mm) Each light pipe system is supplied with one or more: - Modular light pipe sections (modules) - Coupling clamps to interconnect the modules The Configuration Charts at the end of this Bulletin show the available product configurations for each series. See Additional Materials Required for a complete list of the components needed to install the light pipe system. These light pipe systems are not supplied with a light source. Consult with your light source manufacturer to select a suitable light source for your light pipe system and its intended application. Read and follow all product safety warnings and procedures as documented in this Bulletin and in the light source manufacturer's manual. The installer is responsible to know and follow all applicable building and electrical codes and workplace regulations. Light pipe series LPS100, LPS150 and LPS250 may be used for a variety of architectural, entertainment, industrial and general lighting applications. Depending on the light source used, possible applications for general interior and exterior lighting include: Open spaces Hallways Swimming pools Warehouses Conference facilities Parking ramps Curtain wall backlighting Note: Light sources are available for a variety of applications, including functional white lighting and static or dynamic lighting colors for decorative purposes. Safety Information WARNING Hazardous Voltage Risk To reduce the risk of death or serious injury, including shock and burns, or property damage from hazardous voltage: Use only licensed electricians to install and service the electrical components in the lighting system. Comply with all local, state and national electrical and building codes. WARNING Improper Installation Risk To reduce the risk of serious injury or property damage due to the lighting system dislodging from its mounting structure and striking a person or property: Ensure the light pipes are installed with the proper gaps so the couplings can absorb any thermal expansion and contraction of the lighting system. Select suitable anchoring hardware and fastening techniques for the mounting structure. Refer to 3M Instruction Bulletins 7.2 and 7.4 for more information. CAUTION High Intensity Light Risk To reduce the risk of eye damage from high intensity light from the light source or the highly reflective mirrored surface inside the end cap: Never look directly at the bulb or any reflected light from the end cap when the system is energized. Never look directly into the end cap in sunlight or allow any reflected sunlight from the end cap to be directed towards a person's eyes. CAUTION Hot Surface Temperature Risk To reduce the risk of burns from hot surfaces, never touch the surface of the light source when energized. CAUTION When handling any chemical products, read the manufacturers' container labels and the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for important health, safety and environmental information. To obtain MSDS sheets for 3M products go to 3M.com/MSDS, or by mail or in case of an emergency, call 1-800-364-3577 or 1-651-737-6501. When using any equipment, always follow the manufacturers' instructions for safe operation. Product Bulletin LPS - 4

Supplied Components Note: Items and quantities supplied vary by the length and diameter of the light pipe series you order. FIGURE 1 Light Pipe Module Number FIGURE 2 Collar Clamp LPS250 FIGURE 3 End Cap with Mirror LPS250 The light pipe module transports and distributes light uniformly along its entire length. Each module in a system is individually numbered and must be installed in the proper sequence. The collar clamp secures the LPS250 locking collar connection between light pipe modules. The integral gasket creates a weather-tight seal (IP55) between the modules, light source and end cap to seal out dust, dirt and moisture. One end cap per light pipe system is required. The cap is connected to the inside of a coupling at the end of the system. 3M's fabricated aluminum end cap uses a highly reflective 3M film on the inside surface to redirect light back into the light pipe system. See the label for the module number FIGURE 4 Hanger Bracket LPS250 Two hanger brackets are required per each LPS250 module. FIGURE 5 Coupling LPS100/LPS150 The coupling aligns adjacent light pipe modules and absorbs any thermal expansion and contraction from the modules. Its gasket creates a weather-tight seal (IP 66) between the modules, light source and end cap to seal out dust, dirt and moisture. Product Bulletin LPS - 5

Additional Materials Required FIGURE 6 End Cap LPS100/LPS150 LPS100 and LPS150 do not ship with end caps or mounting clamps: they must be ordered separately from 3M. One end cap per light pipe system is required. The cap is connected at the end of the system. 3M's fabricated aluminum end cap uses a highly reflective 3M film on the inside surface to redirect light back into the light pipe system. FIGURE 7 Mounting Clamp lps100/lps150 One mounting clamp per light pipe module is required for attaching the modules to a structure. 3M's mounting clamps are supplied with a lower and upper clamp half, an O-ring to protect and grip the module and two 1/4-20 x 25-inch screws. LPS100 LPS150 Other Materials Required Light source designed with a 6 inch (15 cm) outer diameter snout that is at least 2 inches (51 cm) in length. Anchoring hardware to attach mounting clamps to a structure. Three anchors are required for each mounting clamp. Select hardware that is appropriate for the structure's surface. Silicone lubricant to ease the installation of the couplings. Use only silicone lubricants; other types of lubricants may attack the plastic and rubber parts. Note: For specific mounting instructions, always refer to the 3M Installation Instructions provided with the light pipe series you are using. Product Configurations The available product configurations for light pipe series LPS100, LPS150 and LPS250 are provided in the tables on the following pages. The light pipe modules supplied for each configuration are individually numbered. Each module has a unique interior design to ensure uniform illumination along the entire length of the lighting system. Therefore, each light pipe module must be installed in sequential order, according to the applicable table, with the lowest number oriented toward the light source. The number of the light pipe module closest to the light source varies according to the length of the system. For example, the LPS150, 32-foot (9.8 m) system has four light pipe modules with number 5 closest to the light source, while a LPS150, 24-foot (7.3 m) system has three modules with number 6 closest to the source. Avoid exposing the film on the interior of the light pipe module to direct sunlight or high intensity UV light. Once installed, the outer housing of the module and an appropriate light source filter protect the film. Handling Important Note! Do NOT touch the interior of the light pipe module. The film lining the inside of the module can be easily damaged if it is touched or if dust or moisture is allowed to penetrate the module. Do not remove the protective wrap until immediately before installation. Light Pipes showing signs of handling may not be returned. Cleaning Handle the light pipe modules with care. Although the exterior housing of the light pipe module is rugged and capable of withstanding an impact, it is susceptible to scratching and should be handled accordingly. Important Note! Do NOT clean the interior of the light pipe modules. Do NOT use any cleaning products or solvents. Clean the exterior of the light pipe modules with a soft dry or dampened cloth. Use a soap and water mixture or mild window cleaner. Do not use any abrasive cleanser or solvent cleaning solutions. Wipe dry to prevent possible visible water spots. Product Bulletin LPS - 7
