(Counting its three Booster Packs, new ships and one new monster will appear.) We have decided (after consulting with you, the players) that this is a better approach than doing individual attack products for different areas of the galaxy. (This was delayed by the die cut counters.) Borders of Madness is being developed for release at a future time, with scouts, carriers, escorts, battle tugs, maulers, and other ships that only a madman would want to see added to ederation Commander. ederation dmiral, a campaign manual designed to work with ederation Commander, will be released when finished. It will also work with SB, Starmada, and CTS and will provide players with everything they need to create their own campaigns at any level (strategic, regional, or local). This will be one of the largest books we have ever released. Briefing # is in preparation. It contains commando ships, transports, survey ships, police ships, ground bases, specialized freighters, and much more needed for ed dmiral. The Scenario Reference Book is steadily making progress toward publication. The Starship Reference Book has recently come on the radar as a plausible product worth doing. proper Tactics Manual is being developed. Lots of ship packs and other items in PD format will be loaded onto e. We will make an effort to do some new sixpacks in. We realize that some sell better than others, but we need to do them all and do them in a logical order. Each will have a mix of existing and entirely new ships, and some ships for future products will debut in this way. The next product is to be Civil Wars but the original plan for this product may have become too big, requiring some elements to be moved to later products. Star leet Battles has recently seen the release of Module E Borak and Module E Peladine. Steven Petrick has settled on Module C Lost Empires as the new product for. He has recently updated the Basic Set, R, R, R, and T SSD books and these are on e. He has updated the rulebook for dvanced Missions and Master Rulebook Update D. He recently completed the lost SB Playtest Module R Nicozians which is now on e and available in print. Mongoose continues shipping boxes of Starline miniatures. The first Gorn Squadron Boxes have been shipped. CTS Book will appear in. Star leet Marines: ssault has been released and is in your store even now. Star leet Marines: Last Stand will appear in ebruary. Prime Directive is our roleplaying universe, available in PDM and GURPS versions. We are currently focusing on conversions of the four Prime Directive books to Mongoose Traveller. We are releasing the original PD books on both e and DriveThru RPG. CPTIN S LOG # Lots of fun for C players: four scout cruisers, two new scenarios, the first round of Battle Group Commander articles (each player selects a force of ships and describes his tactics for a particular mission and opponent), and the drone tactics of C national champion Patrick Doyle. SB PLTINUM HT The second online SB Platinum Hat tournament has begun, with a larger turnout than last year. This event is down to the final four players, all of whom are former leet Captains!

EDERTION COMMNDER SCENRIO (CM) SNT MEETS THE MONSTER Several different empires detected Santa s Sleigh starting its yearly rounds and sent patrol ships to intercept the jolly old elf, assuming him to be some kind of spy. s Rudolph helped Santa evade their attempts to chase him down, Santa suddenly found himself and his sleigh faceto-face with a space monster, and the monster was not in the holiday spirit. Overcome with good will toward the monster, Santa decided to try to turn it into a nice monster. But he needed help, so he put out a call for any ship nearby to come to his aid. What s in it for us? every captain responded. Santa replied, Ho, ho, ho! Why, whoever helps me turn this monster nice will receive control over it as my special gift. friendly monster in my fleet? each captain asked himself. It didn t take any of them long to order warp speed and give the order to go to red alert and prepare for combat! (CMa) NUMBER O PLYERS t least four: One player controls Santa s Sleigh, one player controls the monster (unless you pick one with automatic rules), all other players control the empire ships. Each Empire player secretly selects his ship; there may be more than one from the same empire. (CMb) INITIL SET-UP Map: Set up the map with panels across and panels high if using small hexes ( wide and high with large hexes). The map is fixed and does not float. ny unit leaving the map has disengaged and cannot return. Monster: Set up the monster hexes from the center of the map. Santa s Sleigh: Set up the Sleigh hexes from the center of the map and directly opposite from the monster (i.e., the Sleigh should be hexes from the monster with the center of the map exactly halfway between them). It may face any direction desired. (Santa s Sleigh is in Communique # which is on the website.) Empire Ships: Each of the rest of the players controls one frigate of the empire of their choice. Count the total number of hexes that border the map and divide by the number of players controlling empire ships. When ships are initially placed, they must be placed with that number of hexes between them. Players may select some method to determine the order of placing the ships (e.g., roll dice or draw cards). The first player to place a ship picks any border edge hex desired. The next player places a ship the proper number of hexes or a multiple of that number away from the first ship. This continues until all empire ships have been placed around the edge of the map. Players may set their ships to face any direction they desire. (CMc) OBJECTIVE Mission-Monster: Wreak as much havoc and destruction as possible using the regular rules for that particular monster, but above all, Santa s Sleigh must be destroyed! Mission-Santa: Turn the monster into a nice monster. In game terms, this means destroy the monster. (s the monster incurs damage, it is not really being destroyed. Santa s magic is turning it nice. ) Mission-Empire Players: Help Santa turn the monster nice and survive the attacks of the other empire players. Time Limit: The scenario continues until either the monster is turned nice or Santa s Sleigh is destroyed. Victory: Santa wins if the monster is turned completely nice (e.g., if the monster is destroyed). The monster wins if Santa s Sleigh is destroyed. n empire player also wins if the monster is turned nice and he/she has accumulated the most credit for helping Santa. (CMd) SPECIL RULES. Niceness Points: Empire players can earn credit for helping Santa turn the monster nice. ny damage on the monster that is caused by an empire player in the same impulse that Santa s Sleigh causes damage generates Niceness Points for that empire player. or example, if an empire player causes points of damage on the monster in the same impulse that Santa s Sleigh causes damage on the monster, that player should record Niceness Points. It does not matter if the monster player later repairs that damage; the empire player who caused it still keeps those Niceness Points. (Ignore any requirement to conduct lab information studies first.). Starting Points: Empire players begin the scenario with Niceness Points (NPs) based on the relative point values of their ships. The empire player with the largest point value begins the scenario with no NPs. Each other empire player begins with NPs equal to the difference between the point value of the largest of the empire ships and his/her own ship s point value. E.g., if the highest-valued empire ship is worth points and a second empire player has a ship worth points, the second player would start the scenario with eight NPs.. No Score: Damage caused to the monster by empire players during an impulse when Santa s Sleigh does not cause damage to the monster still damages the monster, but the empire player does not receive any Niceness Points.. Rules of Engagement: Empire players are prohibited from firing at Santa s Sleigh, but there is no such prohibition against firing at one another.. Tractors: ship cannot be forced to disengage by being pushed over the map edge by a tractor beam of another player s ship. If this occurs, the tractor beam automatically breaks when the ship being forced off the map reaches the edge of the map. The ship that was being forced off is given a free HET if this is necessary to keep it from leaving the map. (CMe) ORCE DYNMICS. aster Scenario: This scenario can be played more quickly by using larger ships for the empire players (such as destroyers, light cruiser, or cruisers). The type of monster used can be varied by the players so that each playing of the scenario has different tactics because of the differences between various monsters.. Two Players: Use an automatic monster and have Santa s Sleigh controlled by the Robot Rules which can be found in the Commander s Circle. (CMf) DESIGNER S NOTES This scenario was created new for ederation Commander by Michael Bennett in response to a challenge posted by Steve Cole. It can accomodate any number of players. Empire players will want to keep an eye on the number of Niceness Points their competitors have as the monster gets close to turning nice. Whoever has the most Niceness Points will likely become the target of all others. t least Santa only has to worry about being attacked by the monster. Let s see who will be naughty and who will be nice. Merry Christmas and happy hunting!

RULES QUESTIONS Thanks to Mike West, our C Division Commander, for keeping up with the rules questions. DISPLCEMENT Q: Can a displacement device displace a ship that is held in (or using) a tractor beam? : Yes, doing so breaks the tractor beam. Q: Can docked units be displaced? : It depends. If all of the units can be displaced, then they are all displaced together. If any one unit cannot be, then none of them can be. Q: Can a ship landed on a planet be displaced? : Certainly, but it will still be at Speed ero when it reaches its new location. Q: Can bases, mines, or defense satellites be displaced? : No. The rules (Ud) prohibit these units from being displaced. or what it s worth, you cannot displace planets, moons, stars, comets, asteroids, dust clouds, black holes, variable pulsars, or other terrain objects.

Enter your data and in a few days you ll get an email from our Customer Support Director with a list of gamers near you. ederation Commander Play-by-Email Playing ederation Commander by email is an alternative to playing face-to-face. While there are a few differences (i.e., your opponent isn t sitting across the table from you), it is the same game. The basic gist of the ederation Commander play-by-email (PBEM) system is that you and your opponent submit your orders for the turn to a moderator via email. The moderator then processes them, and sends a SitRep (Situation Report) to the players via email. You receive the results, write up your next set of orders, and then submit your orders once again. The process is repeated until the game is completed. Sounds simple? That s because it IS! It ll take a little getting used to (after all, what doesn t?), but once you ve got the hang of it, you ll be lobbing photon torpedoes (or whatever your weapon of choice is) at opponents from all over the world. Every ederation Commander PBEM game has at least three participants: two or more players and one moderator. The moderator s purpose is to accept orders from the players and carry them out, reporting the results of those orders to all players. While he is not a player, the moderator fulfills a very important role in the game. Good moderators and good players make for a good, enjoyable game of ederation Commander. Moderating a ederation Commander PBEM game is also an excellent way to learn more about the ederation Commande rules. While there are some disadvantages to PBEM (it does take longer to finish a game), there are advantages as well.
