PAPER SPACE AND LAYOUTS There are tw distinct wrking envirnments in AutCAD namely: Mdel Space and Paper space. Prjects can be develped by either wrking in the mdel space thrugh the use f MVSETUP r PAPER SPACE. The frmer represents a useful technique when wrking n 2D drawings and can substitute itself t the use f paper space. It enables the user t set drawings fr pltting directly frm the mdel space. Hwever, it has its limitatins, fr example it cannt be used if different views are t be displayed in the same setup. This latter situatin has t be reslved thrugh the use f PAPER SPACE. MVSETUP prvides several advantages, amngst thers: Easy set up. Ability t view the whle prject in a single set up. Avid the cmplexities f paper space set up, templates, etc. Greater navigatin ease and facility t set up a new prject. PAPER SPACE prvides several advantages namely: Allws yu t set up yur drawing sheet with brder and title blck. Paper Space lets yu create and display multiple views f Mdel Space Each view windw, called a viewprt, acts like an individual virtual screen. Yu can als cntrl layer visibility individually fr each viewprt and display different versins f the same area f yur drawing with different visual styles amngst thers. Viewprts can be mved, cpied, and stretched and even verlapped. Ability t print multiple 3D views f an bject within a drawing brder and title blck. In this tutrial we explre hw paper space wrks. Yu have all wrked n drawings by lking thrugh a single windw in mdel space. Let us suppse that we can step back and view ur drawing frm further away and by ding s we are able t see ther drawings in ur main drawing file. See example belw; 1 /6

and s, fr layut 3 and layut 4. Nw, we als have the pssibility t view the plan in layut 1 differently, i.e. using different 3D view. OR with different visual styles. 3 /6
Paper Space lets us create and display multiple views f Mdel Space. Each view windw, is called a viewprt and acts like a separate virtual screen. Yu can als include graphic bjects such as brders and ntes that appear nly in Paper Space, the figures belw shw the Plan drawing set up in Paper Space mde t display several views in nrmal view and print preview. Hw t set up yur paper space? Yu can get t Paper Space by clicking any f the Layut tabs belw the drawing area. Yu can als use the Quick View Layuts tl in the status bar. Figure 1.1a Let s begin with the basics f swapping between Mdel and Paper Space: I. Open a drawing file yu saved befre, and make sure that yur display shws the entire drawing. II. Click the Layut1 tab in the lwer-left crner f the drawing area. Yu see yur drawing appear in a kind f page preview view (see Figure 1.1a). Or right-click n any layut and chse new layut. III. Enter the chsen layut by clicking n it and delete the existing viewprt. IV. Next, right-click n the layut chsen and select page set up manager, select mdify. V. Cnfigure the layut chsen; set name f pltter, paper size, and check if the plt area is set t layut. Select landscape, scale 1:1. OK and Clse. VI. Nw, we are ging t create a viewprt t shw the part f the drawing we wish t display in a layut. Type VPORTS and Enter. The viewprt dialg bx will appear. Select the type f layut yu wish t use e.g. Single. Clse the dialg bx aby clicking n OK. VII. In yur cmmand line Type r click n Fit. VIII. Duble-click inside the viewprt. IX. Zm and pan t display the part f drawing yu are interested t shw. X. In the status bar, lcate the scale functin and select a scale f 1:10, change t 1:20. See the difference and select the ne that is apprpriate fr yu. Lck the view using the padlck in the status bar. Scale XI. XII. XIII. Again Pan, zm etc. t adjust. Yur Layut is dne. If yu wish yu can make the viewprts invisible by affecting them t layuts r by using mdify prperties and setting clr t white. Nw yu shuld try t practice by creating a layut with multiple viewprts as shwn n page 4 in this tutrial. 5 /6
