Page 4 Meet... Susan Schuetz, of Isanti, Minnesota My name is Susan Schuetz and I am from Isanti, MN. I am married to a wonderful and supportive man and I have a daughter and a step-son. I work as an office manager for an insurance agency. I have been quilling for about two years and absolutely have fallen in love with this craft and its rich history. I enjoy all the various items that can be made with these strips of paper. I consider it an honor to be a part of the North American Quilling Guild and the artists associated with this group. It is my goal to become accredited one day. I see this as an art form rather than a craft. There are very few quilling artists in our area; therefore I seem to be one of the very few. Since I started quilling I have shared it with loved ones and family. Since then I have had some requests from people to create items for them and was also invited to conduct a class. I have created some on an order basis although for now I prefer to quill for pleasure and am keeping these requests at a minimum. The monthly kits that are being produced by Denise and her team are great fun and for anyone learning, they are a great way to get the creativity flowing. Thoughts from Denise With the ending of summer it means the beginning of the fall show circuit. This period of the year represents the majority of income for many artists. Whether it be local craft shows or juried art exhibits do not lose this opportunity to add to your portfolio and client base. Make certain to take clear pictures of your work and displays. Have a guestbook for visitors to sign, with mailing information (both email and snail) and a comment area. If you are an instructor have a check off area to indicate an interest in taking classes. When it is time for your next show or class drop them a post card or email with a friendly reminder. Have plenty of business cards ready - these are the perfect place to use leftover flowers or designs. Remember these cards have two sides, so do not limit information to just the front. Bring order forms if you are planning on taking special orders. This is where your portfolio will come into play. Bear in mind that this will be a hectic time of the year; do not overbook your orders. You also want to enjoy the Holidays! Why not tell your quilling story? Or share your projects in the Gallery? www.customquillingbydenise.com/customquillinggallery
Page 5 Heidi Reviews If you haven t tried velvet paper this is the monthly package for you! All the ribbon and charms to go with great card blanks complete an inspired Christmas. Trina When I opened this kit I thought I heard sleigh bells ringing and expected to see snow falling outside! What beautiful supplies for Holiday quilling! My favorite is the velvet paper for punching, layering or covering boxes like the star shaped box included in the kit. The ribbons shimmer in gold, silver, green and red. The snowflake and snowman charms are really cute and I like the fact that they can be glued using the same adhesive that I quill with (Sobo) - no special glue to purchase!! This kit includes everything you need to send a Holiday Cheer to your favorite friend or relative: cards, envelopes, snowflake vellum, paper for layering and tags. And of course, Holiday colored quilling strips to quill those sugar plums dancing in your head! Ann This kit provides loads of high quality supplies that will provide you with plenty of holiday merry-making. Create a multitude of projects with the colorful ribbons, charms, elegant vellum, rich velvet paper, card blanks, and paper maché star box. With so many items to choose from, the projects really don t need a great deal of quilling to make them look terrific!
