PROGRAM Speaker today was Stephan Stubbins, Co-Executive Director of the Transcendence Theater Company and one of the founders. Wow! What a presentation. He started with a video, Go Beyond, of highlights from the 2017 season. It was very
entertaining and inspiring. The Company started in 2008-09 when Steve and a friend who were doing Broadway recruited 14 others who quit their jobs and go to Punta Banda, Mexico. They stayed for four months doing performances to benefit, health and wellbeing of the locals. Six dedicated their lives to starting Transcendence. They toured the country talking with theater directors about how to start a theater company. With California State Parks closing, they wandered parks and talked with rangers about how to save them. Seeing the ruins at Jack London State Park, they were inspired to do performances to benefit the park in hopes of saving it. Their first show on Oct. 1, 2011 drew a much bigger than anticipated audience of 900. Because of their dedication and hard work, Jack London was the first park to be saved. Since then they have held 150 performances for over 121,000 attendees using 483 performers. They have given over $420,000 to Jack London Park. They are also committed to exposing kids to theater. They have done 372 Kids Camps and donated 3,600 tickets to kids. After the fires, they did a Sonoma Strong benefit in New York Our Club is going to have a group night at one of the Broadway Holiday Spectaculars in December. NEXT WEEK S SPEAKER Healdsburg Hospital Visit. Eat at Tayman and then proceed to the hospital for a complete tour of the facility. Some members may want to stay away from the lockdown unit!
